Poll!! Opinions Wanted. Help me decide what to do!
Okay as you all know I have a newly purchased '68 stepside with 72 front clip and bed. I have thought long and hard, but don't know which direction to go with it. So I will ask You guys!
My dilemma is tha I want to do one of 3 things: Paint it John Deere Blitz, Black, Red Steelies, with trim rings, Spider caps, and wide whitewalls, dropped 2.5/4. Paint it red with some nice aftermarket wheels, dropped 2.5/4. Do it like my old truck, Black with ralleys, stock height. My concern is that i will probably have the same amount of money tied up in the truck amongst all the choices. Getting the red steelies to work with spidercaps is going to end up costing as much as a nice set of aftermarket wheels. I have to change everything over to 5 x 4 3/4 to use spidercaps. The red seems simple andclean. The black looks awesome, but will require better prep to have it llok great, but the cost savings is in the ralleys and lack of drop. I don't PLAN on selling the truck, but if I ever do, I have to make sure that I don't loose my shirt. While i like the Flat Black and steelie idea the best, i am concerned that at the end of the day it is a fad, and if I sell it my 10,000.00 truck will still sell like a 4000.00 incomplete truck, because of the color. We all know red is eyecatching. They don't call it resale red for no reason. And i loved my old black truck, it always got attention, and when I sold it it brought more than I had in it. Again i don't plan on selling this one, but no one knows what the future holds. I didn't plan on selling the first one either. I added pics, but I can't photoshop, so I can't show you my ideas. Just simple and understated for the most part. I also added a pic of my old truck again. Thanks for letting me ramble, and as always, thank you for your opinion! Shawn

I say go with the first one, there are already lots of red trucks out there, and it would be different than your old one. But any of your choices will make a cool truck.

Y'know, might be crazy but I say it's beautiful just the way it is. Put some stock steel wheels on it and let it be. Maybe paint a faux chalky, weathered shop sign on the doors for flavor.

My wife is going to kill me if I don't get it one color at least.

While the current "Multicultural Look" would probably keep you safe in most urban neighborhoods, it does get embarrassing when the wife has to tell her friends you haven't lost your job. Aside from leaving it look like you just drove it off the reservation, either Red or Black would be beautiful.

For me, it's hard to beat the look of a black truck.

Leave it like it is cosmeticly and drop in a late model FI engine complete with A/C. Drop is definitly in order! Maybe like the ART shop truck?

I like the red idea, But what about a Base of super white with silver on top, to give it that robo cop look. Just a thought.

Re: Poll!! Opinions Wanted. Help me decide what to do!
Let me clarify so there is no confusion. The Shiny black one on top is my old truck. I don't have that one anymore. If everyone is already understanding that... Are there really that many of you that like this crazy tricolor combo.....?
I did think of the late model FI idea and leaving it as is, but once again, the wife......? Thanks fo rthe opinions so far! Shawn

I say any color paint and EFI. Looks good & drives good = makes it easy to live with and easy to sell.

Re: Poll!! Opinions Wanted. Help me decide what to do!
Are you going to do the work yourself? I would prep and paint it with black sealer to get it all one color. Then work one panel at a time getting it ready for paint. As you finish each panel, shoot it in black sealer again.
When you are close to being done with all the body work you can make a decision on keeping the satin look or adding a full gloss paint job.

Re: Poll!! Opinions Wanted. Help me decide what to do!
You know my opinion already when you PM'd me. If you are going to spend all of the time and effort to get the body straight then paint it. Go black again with and all red "street rod" interior.

Re: Poll!! Opinions Wanted. Help me decide what to do!
although i agree with the others on leaving it as is but since you cant i say go with the shop truck look but try and do something a bit different with it, youre already a bit there with it being a stepside, cant wait to see how it turns out

Re: Poll!! Opinions Wanted. Help me decide what to do!
I voted shop truck look.
If you are worried about the fade there tha new paint out there made for this very idea that is more durable than just flat but has the same effect. I will try and find the link for ya and there's even lots of colors to pic from maybe even more ideas will pop into you head confusing you more yet FOUND THE LINK ITS CALLED HOT ROD FLATZ I think this stuff is cool and I may have to try it in the futuer RJ22

Re: Poll!! Opinions Wanted. Help me decide what to do!
I am wondering if people think the black truck is the current truck. I can't imagine wanting to leave a multi color as it is, but that's just me. I am also not a fan of red on a truck unless it is a red and white Fleetside. Being a Stepside, I personally prefer a solid color and an all red truck is too much for me, but again that's me. The <resale> Red seems to be the main motivation for Red so to heck with that since you said you don't plan on selling it, and you like black better. Black runs a close second to red in the resale market so do it the way you like it! BLACK! That's not pea green ya know! (although I like pea green lol)... I prefer a stock height and 15" aftermarket wheels too but you gotta do what you like, if it's cool, then the "fad" will never fade. Just don't follow the trend, make your own...

Re: Poll!! Opinions Wanted. Help me decide what to do!
Why don't we split the difference? Instead of flat black you could go with flat red! Combined with a white roof and some wide whites would look pretty good as well.
