Shorten LB Frame or Frame Swap to SB frame?
I have two long bed trucks one a '67 Fleet GMC with Leaf springs and is solid as a rock. The second is a '70 LWB Chevy Custom with the normal rust areas and has a coil spring rear end. I also own a SWB frame from a '69 chevy stepper that came w/ No cab or front clip with a solid bed.
I have been watching the threads lately and it seems that every time someone is selling a shortened long bed they seem to get questioned about the work done (justifiably so) and I have noticed some concerns in regards to value of the shortened frame truck too. SO my question is this, Would it be better for me to swap cab/front end swap of either of the trucks to the Short Frame or to slice the one of my choice? This is from a value and a time standpoint and from a view of a potntential buyer, should I sell it when done? The obviouls other choice is that I could keep the long beds or sell them and buy a swb truck but I am trying to work with what I got. She will be intended be a weekend driver but as with most everything eventually it comes time to sell. Just sitting here thinking about my options. Thanks

I shortened my '70 Chevy longbox frame using this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=123624 It worked out great and wasn't all that hard to do. Just make sure it is welded by someone that is an above average welder and knows how to prep the joints before laying rod down. I looked at a short/fleet 4x4 that was for sale at a local swap meet a while back and someone had just sliced straight down through the frame and welded it back together. There was a plate on the inside of the frame but it didn't look too safe to me.... LockDoc

I say swap the frame since you already have it. In places where swb frames are non exisitent cutting is obviously a good option, but if I could get my hands on a swb frame I would definitely use it.

I say cut it just to say you did it. It'd be a cool project IMO. Just my $.02

Re: CHoices Shorten LB Frame or Frame Swap to SB frame?
I'd swap the frames. It will give you the chance to detail some under the cab and the frame also. I think I am right in saying the cab and front end can be lifted up in one piece and the new frame rolled under it. I know I saw a pic on here just a day or so ago of someone doing just that. ......................Bamm!

Seeing how you have a SWB frame...I would do the swap. If you did not have the frame... do the cut.

I'm with the "swap it if you have it" crowd. If you didn't already have a SWB frame, then I would say cut it. I like cutting frames!

Re: CHoices Shorten LB Frame or Frame Swap to SB frame?
If you are planning on selling it and getting the most $$ for it, I'd say use the short frame as well. If I had a long bed and was planning on keeping the truck for a good long time, then cut the long bed. I wouldn't purchase a cut short bed truck, but would have no problem at all having/driving one I did myself. On the other hand, I'd bet 75% of the people who would look at the truck probably wouldn't look/notice that the frame was cut.

Re: CHoices Shorten LB Frame or Frame Swap to SB frame?
I'd say go with the shortbed frame as well. I'd also suggest you use the 67 Fleet since it in way better shape than the 70 and in my opinion much cooler.

Re: CHoices Shorten LB Frame or Frame Swap to SB frame?
So general consensus is to do the swap. Sounds good. I can bring the short frame home in a few weeks and start detailing it a little. Slap on some paint make sure the suspension is up to snuff and then in a few more weeks go get the 67 GMC and make it happen.
Thanks for the ideas and opinions.
