Protect-O-Plate
Just out of curiosity, does anyone have the original warranty book/Protect-O-Plate that came with your truck? I was looking through all my truck paperwork last night and came across mine. It shows the “Delivery Date To Original Owner” (which was my grandfather) as 2-25-67. The truck was in a wreck shortly after it was purchased and I also have the work order for the repair work that was done. There have been a few odd things that I’ve come across while rebuilding my truck (for the second time!). First of all it was originally a long bed, but had a one-piece drive shaft. Didn’t all long beds have a 2-piece?? Also, the truck was originally blue with a white top, but when I stripped the cab the first time, there was red paint under the blue! Also, I have the build sheet that was under the seat, but oddly enough, it doesn’t match my truck! Interesting.

I got my truck from the original owner. He still had the protect-o-plate and original bill of sale (typed with a manual typewriter) and owners manual.

Well, you said it was wrecked, didn't you? So, maybe the red parts were the one's used to fix it. Maybe the seat was damaged, like maybe it got wet before the truck was fixed and they took a seat from another truck. Does the color on the build sheet say it had red paint? Just offering some suggestions.

ive come across couple of protecto plates and also original small white key envelope and all warranty stuff unused, ive got that all for a 68 3/4 ton, pluys sleeve for manual and whole nine yards, no window sticker though, the items can be found, the first thing i do when i see a vehicle in a yard is i get in the cab and check in it and on the SPID label for goodies like posi and so forth. the plate will have ratio and drivetrain and such info on it also. i found original protecto plate and book in a 67 GMC 2500 most recently, posi and 4.56 and 283ci and CH465 good luck |

My old longhorn came with the protecto plate, bill of sale, waranty book, owners manual, window sticker, and the recall paper work too. no build sheet in it though.
I have found that the build sheet does not always match the truck 100%. The one ton has normal base model mirrors, but it is listed as west coast Jr if memory serves...All original, no repaint, no left over holes...just never installed the options. |

Where are build sheets usually found on 70 models? I have all the other paperwork on mine including white envelope with key knockouts. I'd like to find build sheet too.
Thanks |

They can be anyplace..under carpet, behind fuel tank, but the most common on our trucks is the seat. Pull the seat out, and look in the back, and underneath. You'r lookin for a 30+ year old sheet of paper stuffed in the springs against the foam. Be VERY carefull when removing it.

I have three manual typewriters. Very handy devices. They don't crash like computers and have an instant Auto-Save feature. The editing features do need a little work though.

Yes, my '68 was purchased from the original owner and came with protect-o-plate , owners manual, warranty papers and the original GM / BRIGGS key. Havent pulled the seat, fuel tank or floor mat to look for the build sheet yet. Hope it's there!! Later
