question about red holley fuel pump

i have a holley red fuel pump it runs all the time is there a bypass or something. with the key on it never shuts off even when the motor is not running.

I have same as you. I had thought at one time it did bypass internally . Lately I left it on while engine was still . The pump evidently puts constant pressure to the carb, anytime the pump has power to it. Not a 100% on this but I had a really good time trying to restart my engine.

Holley also sells an oil pressure triggered cut-off switch, a required safety device for some race sanctioning bodies. When the oil pressure is below a certain level it cuts off the fuel pump. Possibly 20 PSI. That way if the engine stalls, fuel isn't force-fed into the carb or squirted all over the engine bay. Since I put my Holley electric fuel pump on a 454 to solve a hard starting gripe, I didn't consider it necessary for a street truck. However when I had a hot carb backfire and the oiled-element air cleaner caught fire -- my fuel pump stayed on while I got out of the truck to open the hood. The safety cut-off switch would've kept damage to a minimum.

Summit's p/n for the Holley fuel pump safety switch is: HLY-12-810.
Jeg's p/n is: 510-12-810 for the Holley and p/n 720-7872 for a Mr. Gasket unit. Prices from '06 catalogs run about $22 for the Holley and $13.50 for the Mr. Gasket.
These safety switches work by Tee-ing into the oil pressure sender line with the fuel pump hot lead running across its switch contacts. When Oil Pressure goes below 15 PSI, the switch trips open and the fuel pump turns off. On starting, the engine has to build up oil pressure to 15 PSI and the contacts trip closed, thus energising the fuel pump.
