rear brake swap
I have a 71 3/4 ton 4x4, with what I believe is an eaton rear diff (round pumpkin), and I it has a unique brake drum size of 11" x 1-3/4". No parts are listed in any books for this brake drum & shoe.
So, I was wondering if I could just swap in the backing plate from a Dana 60 to get the more common 12" x 2" brakes; cheaper and better brakes. Your thoughts & ideas appreciated, short of swapping in a different axle with the right gear ratio (4.10), etc. Thanks for your help. |

all are minimally 12x2", how are you going about measuring the width of shoe/inside of drum ?

I haven't actually pulled the drums and shoes, let alone measure them. I'm just going with the specs in my reference books and there's no listing for a 71, 3/4, 4x4.
BTW, how does one go about pulling the brakes on a 3/4 ton. I understand you may have to pull the whole axle and "C" clip from the differential, right? |
