interchangeability of pwr.gear box?

anyone happen to know the years of application for pwr.steering gear box? would a 79 gear box off a 1/2ton work?mounting brkt. the same to frame?i know the actual mechanism is prolly the same,but what about the mounting bosses to frame?thanks all.

if your talking 2wd the 79 should bolt right on i used an 80 on mine

thanks mooneyes, yeah it's 2wd.mounting holes bolted straight up to your frame correctly?

if its a 68 you are putting one on then it will be a 50/50 chance,

you need ot have depression area inside area of the four mounting holes in frame rai for a common p/s box to sit right on frame rail, otherwise youll need a BFH to make a depression.

bumper bracket wil need a piece trimmer out in middle or so of the bracket, a torch or cutting wheel will do it.,

some 1980 boxes have wrong casting and have incorrect hoses ends, the 168-79 boxes use the common flare type lines and alot of the 80 and all 81-up use the late model O ring type ends.

watch out for that, you can swap the fitting out in backside of pump to change to other style of hoses, some of use have some of each laying around salveaged from pumps we have scrapped out,.
