mcgaugheys spindles
well i just recieved my set of 2.5 drop spindles and i have to say i am slightly disapointed in the finish of these. everyone has praised mcgaugheys for such a wonderful product and im sure they are great spindles. i guess that is just the perfectionist in me complaining about nothing. will por 15 once applied to the spindles smooth them out a little more. the castings have little pot marks in them and i would like them to be super smooth.
thanks for allowing me to cry. steve |

Re: mcgaugheys spindles
that's the nature of cast iron bro ... everyone's spindles have that rough look except on the axle spindle itself.

Re: mcgaugheys spindles
por 15 is very thin stuff but maybe with 6 or 7 coats// or you could just spend a few hours with a die grinder or dremal tool you could get them as smooth as you want you even could polish them up and clear coat them for a real show appearance depends on the hours and effort you're willing to spend

Re: mcgaugheys spindles
yeah i figure im just being to picky. my perfectionism really gets the best of me. could one use all-metal to smooth them out and then por 15 over that?
thanks steve |

Re: mcgaugheys spindles
I would suggest having them powdercoated at a competent shop in our area. The powder coater I use, lays the powder on pretty heavy and that will fill a certain amount of surface imperfections.
