What would it cost?
Okay, I just need a ballpark figure.
I have a 1971 Cheyenne c-20 2wd(HO52 10 bolt open rear) long bed with a pass side rear wheel cylinder leaking badly(have to fill the resevoir once a week, as it's half empty at that point!). So I assume I have to have both sides done with new wheel cylinders, brake shoes and possibly turning the drums. Being that it's a 3/4 ton, they need to pull the axels to get to the wheel cylinders, right? What should this cost at an average repair shop? Thanks |

There is no way of guessing. You need to pick a shop and talk to them... letting them know that parts may be hard to find.
Some parts back there aren't even avalible anymore. Good luck |

Talk to Napa and get a cost on all those parts for your worst case scenario.Ask a shop what labor would be to r& r rear brakes on a full-floating 3/4t axle.Removing the axles is a snap,as are the drums.

I just rebuilt the rear in my truck this year and a good ballpark figure for shoes, wheel cylinder rebuild kits,and axle gaskets is $120. That dosen't include turning the drums or replacing any frozen brake lines that get twisted off. I agree with Special-K, find a good shop to do this, somebody with experience on these rears. After you pull the axle, there is a double set of lock rings and a locking tab ring that need to be removed to pull the drum. When this is reinstalled it needs to be torqued to the proper specs. If this is done wrong it could trash your rear.
