8 lug wheel question
I'm planning on going junkyarding tomorrow looking for some stock wheels for my C20.
Is there anything that I should watch out for, I know the later models have a backspace issue I'm looking for some to put dog dish caps like the ones in these pics. Do they have to be GM wheels? Thanks...Paul

Re: 8 lug wheel question
Alot of guys like the stock Ford wheels,pre-96/non-metric.If you find a set of 4 go for those.I believe they have a bit more dish or are a tad(1/2")wider.They just look better with the caps. But,any factory 8-lug truck wheels will work.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
Haven't been here for a while. That is a nice truck. Makes me want to clean my stock wheels and throw them on. I'm running 16" aftermarket wheels on mine.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
I'll probably run aftermarket too, so I dont screw up my nice caps, but I just want to have them for shows or cruise nights.
How do you tell if their non metric?

Re: 8 lug wheel question
Paul, if you do any hauling, i would say stick with GM wheels. They are hub centric, which puts all the load on the hub, instead of the lugs. GM has the smallest hubs, so the ford and dodge wheels will fit on there, but the hole in the center of the wheel will be nowhere near the hub, and this, will place all the load on the studs.
I went through quite a few studs 9snapped) on my old blue longhorn due to the ford wheels, and then on the SWB GMC too... although, in all fairness, it was overloaded, but, none the less, the load shoulda gone on the hub on that one too, and not on the studs. |

Re: 8 lug wheel question
Sounds good, I'll go junkyarding anytime. You'll cry when you see the rust free cabs heading to the crusher

Re: 8 lug wheel question
I've got Ford wheels on mine since I took off the spit-rims 8 years ago.Never any problem.Saturday we hauled a 6,000 Lb. load to the dump. I don't remember seeing any miss-match on the center hole so either these are same as GM or I have a lousy memory. In either case I've been really happy with these wheels.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
I have the Furd wheels on my 67 3/4T. I sprayed them rattle can dull aluminum, installed trim rings and hub caps like WorkinLonghorn. They looked quite sharp if I do say so myself. All that showed of the wheel was a thin band between the trim ring and the hub cap - looked almost like chrome wheels.

Re: 8 lug wheel question
I heard if you put on Ford wheels the truck tends to pull off to the side of road out of habit.
