Is this worth picking up?
A friend of my sons just called me. He has a 79 chev short box pickup he is giving away for free. Front clip is good, body and box are shot. No motor, trans or rear end. But it does have the complete front suspension, power steering and power brakes...I know the suspension is usable on our rides....what about the brake booster and master cyl set up? Steering box? Im just trying to decide if this is worth bothering with.

Re: Is this worth picking up?
I think its worth getting since its free. You could scrap the body/chassis and get some $$$ back from that.If nothing else you can sell whats left and/or you dont want/need.The steering box can be used too,IIRC.

Re: Is this worth picking up?
the gear box is an upgrade, and a direct bolt on. You might need some adapters for the Hyd lines, but ohterwise, a direct bolt on.
Variable rate steering is why it's an upgrade. |

Re: Is this worth picking up?
The frontend is definately worth picking up and selling down the road if you don't use it. I think the metric fittings on the gear box didn't start until the '80's.

Re: Is this worth picking up?
Unless you need something from it, I would consider it a waste of time distraction from getting something done on my project. Just me though. Time is precious.

Re: Is this worth picking up?
The front clip is worth a few geeters if the hood and P fender are still good. Most of the timer the passenger fender is shot from battery acid up front and a/c runoff in the rear. The hoods are prone to kining or bowing in the middle. If that is good you have some cash in the bank.

Re: Is this worth picking up?
If nothing else it is worth good money as scrap. TAke the front end, maybe a couple of other parts and scrap the rest.
