72 door panel/wood insert questions
Hey all!! - I've been looking for black door panels for my 72 cheyenne super and I'm wondering anybody can tell me if there is a quality reproduction panel out there? I've heard that they're junk, that they have shrinkage/warpage and fit problems. theres a vendor on ebay (Item number: 160140053302) that states that his does not. anybody have any experience with this guy? what about the repo wood inserts? are they any good? my preference would be to find real nice originals if anybody has any. the panels and armrests on my truck are tan ones that have been dyed black. some of the black is chipping off and the door panel seems kind of dry and flaky around some of the screw holes. not sure how successfully they could be re-dyed if I decided to go that route. just recently bought my truck and am a newbie to the forum. appreciate any help you can give me!!

Re: 72 door panel/wood insert questions
If you talk to the guys at www.thetruckshop.com they have the correct woodgrain inserts. They send out originals to get redone and they come back looking exact, even with the knot by the door handle like the factory. I've seen them in person and I can't see any difference.

Re: 72 door panel/wood insert questions
I would stay away from any reproduction 72 door panel or inserts. JMO. How chalky are your door panels? Usually the darker the door panel, the better shape they are in. Parchment are the worst and seem to be the most chalky. I know of a guy who rebuilds originals and they come out very nice. And he rebuilds the inserts with GM wood grain.
These were my originals that were fairly chalky. He lightly bead blasts them and dyes them. They are @ $400 + good cores which seems high, but repros. Would cost $200 for the panels and @ 200 for the inserts.

Re: 72 door panel/wood insert questions
I just went thru the same thing.I had green and wanted black and didnt want to dye them.So I took a chance last week and orderd some black panels( I had heard they dont fit well)but was told I could return them.I also orderd repo woodgrain. The woodgrain was a perfect fit to the orginals, the panels I had grind out just a tad so the woodgrain would fit on a couple of corners. Now the panels are not as good as the originals but they are not bad,I am ok with them.Dont ask to post pic because I dont have a clue how.You have to already have the stainless band off of your originals.Panels 129.00 and woodgrains 119.00 at Modern Muscle Classics. Re: 72 door panel/wood insert questions
Glad I read this, I was about to sell the woodgrain inserts that I have. I have two pair, the pair on my truck now and an extra set. I guess I will get a set redone.

Re: 72 door panel/wood insert questions
sameyrasmea72 can you post some better pictures of the edges of the insert? I need to get a set re-done but it's for a show-truck and I need to be sure... It looks like they just put woodgrain tape on the flat surface and I'm wondering how the angled edges look.
