My Father's 1967 Truck

Hello everyone, I have been a little hesitant to post this, but I feel it something I needed to do. On Feb 8, 2005, my father passed away at the age of 62 in Azusa, California and this left a huge void in my life. All of my life I always looked to my father for guidance and advice and now he is gone. My father, who was a simple man in life and worked extremely hard to support his family. He gave me everything in life and I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for him.

A few days after the funeral, my mother spoke to me and said she wanted me to have my father's 1967 Chevy truck. I was so emotional when my mother told me because I knew how much my father loved his truck. He purchased the 1967 truck a few days after my birth and it still runs today. The truck is not in the best shape cosmetically, but it belonged to my dad.

This is what brings me to this site. I want to keep my father alive and I think the best way I can do this is to restore this truck to the condition it was when he purchased it. Yes, I want to restore this truck, but I dont have the slightest idea on where to start. I want to take some picture so i can post them on here and see what you guys think. All i know about the truck is that its a 1967 Chevy 3/4 ton truck with a 327, 4 speed, longbed. Someone here locally told me it was a camper but i am not sure if it is or not. Is there anyway i can find out original color, interior color and other options by the VIN number? If so, how do I do it? Thanks everyone and I apologize for the long post. Martin

Welcome, and there should be a tag in the glovebox with your options, or maybe you will get lucky and find the build sheet in the seat back. And of course, pics would really help. I can relate to what you are doing for your father... Eric

I am with you Martin. My father passed in April 2004 and it was then my step-mother gave me his '69. You will think of your Dad every time you get behind the wheel.

My dad gave me his 71 GMC 4x4 just before he passed away in 98. My oldest son has it now and is the process of restoring it.

i'm glad you're keeping his old truck, my uncle passed away this past may and i have his 72 cheyenne 3/4 ton 4x4 that he purchased brand new back in 72. i've had it a few years and been gathering rustfree pristine sheetmetal and as much NOS trim and option goodies as possible. it'll be a tribute to him when it's finally finished as yours will be too. best of luck.

Welcome Martin. This is my dad's truck. It's a 1968, and he bought it in 1969 slightly used. I was 5 years old at the time, and it is one of my earliest memories. It was the last truck he ever bought. It lasted him until he retired. We lost him in 1997. Restoring it has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. It will probably sound weird, but I can park the truck in the yard, pull up a chair, and just sit and stare at it for hours. Good luck on your restore, and believe me, it will be a rewarding and healing journey for you also.

I have lump in my thoat after reading your post. My pops is still alive and I thank God every day he is. He too has a simple way helping me put things into prospective. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm buliding a truck now that I will give to my oldest son. I hope one day, when i'm gone, he values it as much as you value your fathers. Welcome to the board.
