71 is in the garage

I picked up my 71 Chevy SWB stepside over the weekend, and found that I have a lot more work than I anticipated. The entire front clip minus the hood needs to be replaced. The rockers and cab floor are in pretty bad shape too. The door bottoms are perfect. It has a 305, but I have a 327 that I am building.

Here's the question I am trying to figure out: is the cab worth saving or should I try to find another (one with A/C )?

I will post some pictures tonight.

As premium72 said, it doesn't look that bad if you got a welder/grinder & patience.

BTW, welcome to the board family!

Re: 71 is in the garage

Hmmm, The rockers and floor don't scare me as bad as that big hole above the windshield. I've seen people fix worse before. I guess it just depends on if you can find a better cab cheaper than you can fix the one you already own. Don't throw out that radio delete plate someone is always hunting one! And as previously stated, Welcome to the Board!!!

Re: 71 is in the garage

Well hello fellow (though I am an ex-) C3 owner! I'm the artist (er, uh...DTC member) formerly known as Ccubed.

I think I mentioned before that I'd have lots of body parts from my '72 available, and a cab too! I'm trying to get motivated to get out there (where its stored) and pull it all off the chassis. Let me know!

Re: 71 is in the garage

Thanks for all the replies.

I went under the truck last night and found that the rear cab support is shot. Near the outsides of the cab the lower portion of the support is completely missing. I am comfortable with the metal work, but there seem to be a lot.

Re: 71 is in the garage

If you wanna save some money just put the 327 in it, paint the wheels black or red lower it, and make a rat rod out of it. But then again you have a $50k daily driver so money sould'nt be a prob.

Re: 71 is in the garage

The holes are for underdash A/C would be my guess.

What about the PS frame rail being cut and opened up a little by the fuel pump????
