cutting coil springs

cutting one coil equals how many inches of drop?

54 caddy 62 series 4 door(younger sons ride, aka 54caddy )
70 caddy 2 door, 89 chevy silverado stepside(older sons rides )

3" is the rule of thumb... It's a more or less type of thing.

One coil is about 2" for most trucks.

1/2 coil = 1 inch kinda like c10crazy said 1 coil=2inches
also with that every inch or (half coil) increases spring rate by 10%
