Re: cant find a truck with rust and bondo.. well paint it on

I just dont get the whole patina thing to be honest with you anyway, whether real or fake. I dont understand how someone can like a truck thats rusted and faded but not like a truck thats in great shape and painted to looked rusted and faded, wouldnt the latter of the two be better? Whether real or fake, patina just doesn't make any sense to me. Where im from we dont call it patina, we call it a p.o.s. Im not saying that its not okay to drive a truck thats not restored or painted, just dont call it patina, like you meant for it to be that way. I guess to him his own. Its just my opinion

Re: cant find a truck with rust and bondo.. well paint it on

I thought about painting my truck normal.. but then having it look like the whole side is ripping open, and have it all faded with rust and a shop logo on the door.. like its the underskin or something.. guess it only makes sense in my mind

Re: cant find a truck with rust and bondo.. well paint it on

Lame! A true work truck turned cruiser with faded paint and "battle scars" is something I can respect and even admire, because it's natural and real- even if it's embellished a with fictitious shop logos and the the like. But to purposefully go out and try to create that look with an otherwise near pristine vehicle is worthy of ridicule not respect. Regardless of whether it looks good or not.....the dude is a total poser. That's just me. Not only does my truck look like a pile-o-crap.......it really is a pile-o-crap, and that's what I like about it!

Re: cant find a truck with rust and bondo.. well paint it on

I dont consider that a poser at all.... a poser is someone that tries to act like something that they can not be... with the money he put that truck, he could have bought 3 trucks with bondo and rust... not a poser

This one belongs to a guy in Spring named Mike. Nice, complete with flat black paint and faux patina.

Finally... I have something that's in-style, and I didn't have to pay extra for it.

Give me your nice shiny rust-free sheet metal and $1000.00, and I'll think about giving you mine.

Re: cant find a truck with rust and bondo.. well paint it on

I saw a Street Rod/Rat rod a while back. The guy had built the car with a fiberglass body but wanted "Patina".He proceeded to use several different sizes of small drill bits to drill small holes.A scraper,a couple different gouging tools and some acid to make the brand new fiberglass body look rusted and abused. All in all I thought he went a bit too far with following a fad but someone else will probably like it and give him big bucks for it.
There's a buyer for just about anything, remember the post showing the E-bay auction of an X-Box box.Just the box no X-Box components at all.

Re: cant find a truck with rust and bondo.. well paint it on

I think one of the primary reasons for the "patina" and/or "rat rod" look is that a quality paint job is so fricken expensive.

Even if you do it yourself, quality materials have gotten very spendy.

I'm fortunate that I learned to do it myself......no way in hell could've I afforded to drop it off to someone and pay for what I ended up with.

Not my style to paint it on, but to each their own. They do this in the guitar world as well, people pay big bucks for guitars that have been "aged" by some dude...I don't get it but someone does!
