WIW? Western rust free AC cab in PA

I took a look at this cab today and would like to know what its worth. First here is a little background on it. I think this is as nice a one as I will find around here. No rot at all underneath.

1 - California cab
2 - High hump
3 - Auto columm
4 - AC (whats left on the fire wall)
5 - All headliner trim
6 - Chrome wing windows
7 - Rust free doors
8 - Wiring for cargo light
9 - Decent set of black seat belts (2 passenger)
10 - Power brake booster
11 - Uncut dash
12 - I might have missed something please see pics.

Thanks
Jason

Are you saying 1400 to 2000 for the cab and doors?

that's junk... let me know where it is and i'll haul it to the scrap for him!

lots of good parts there, anything under $1,000 would be nice

I like his heater switch in the glovebox....

Re: WIW? Western rust free AC cab in PA

I bought a cab out of Montana( was already here locally, did not have to go and get it) for my project Frank and paid $750 for it, mind you it was a bare bones and no doors 67 small window needing only inner and outer rockers, and 2 " of foot wells could have gotten away with less repair but wanting to get it all and for good I would say the cab and doors are worth around a $1000

Heck that is nice. Mine is a Texas truck and needed rockers and a couple quarter sized holes in the floor patched. I'd say for you guys anything around a grand is a steal.

Re: WIW? Western rust free AC cab in PA

The doors look great but since they have been cut for speakers that will bring down the value. As for the cab, does any body panels have any rust holes in them at all? If for instance there was a small hole in the rocker I wouldnt pay any more for the cab than one that needs a rocker..Whether its a dime size hole or the whole rocker is gone,it would need replaced...If it doesnt need any real work (Cab corners, floors, rockers, etc) which it doesnt look like it needs, then around $800-$1000 for the cab.The doors,$100-150 max a piece IMO,since they have speaker holes.

Re: WIW? Western rust free AC cab in PA

Looks to be a clean cab needing minimal work. The areas of visible rust become a lot larger after getting rid of paint. I'd have to say the cab/doors are worth $500-$800 depending on area. It's easy to say a price, but I've learned from this board that finding someone to pay the price is harder than saying a price.

Re: WIW? Western rust free AC cab in PA

You won`t have any problem getting over $1,000 for a complete cab w/good doors. They go for $1,500 stripped at swap meets and, yes, they sell fast.Last weekend at Carlisle a cab like yours went for $1,500/complete.That guy gives good deals.People looking for rustfree would rather patch a speaker hole than have rust and those holes are nothing to squabble over.Go ask a bodyman what a cab like that is worth. The guy that sells at Carlisle is an old bodyman and that`s what got him into the parts business. If a shop even wants to tuoch a cab that needs floor patches here and there, kick panels,inner/outer rockers/cab corners/cab supports, etc, how much does that work cost? How much are just the relatively cheap repair panels when you add them up?
It`s easy to feel sticker shock at a rustfree cab price. It can price itself right into a higher level resto. But,is your truck worth it?The deciding factor comes right down to the cab on a truck.Everything else can be bought and bolted on.So can a cab once you`ve torn a truck down enough. And,you can "bolt" a nice cab right back on...for $1,500 or more.Isn`t a cab worth 3 or so times the cost of a new hood?Is a tool & stowage door worth $300?Is a set of blingy wheels worth more than a cab?A newly produced cab would prolly run over $8K.I can`t imagine a bodyshop around here taking a cab that`s rusted in the usual places fixing a cab for under $1,500.And,what do you have?A patched up cab that hopefully all those new seems are sealed to prevent a quick re-rust out.A fixed cab is not rustfree,it`s rust repaired.
One more thing...How often do we see a rustfreecab offered for sale on this site? When have we seen one that`s sitting in PA?How often do we see,"Man,if you were closer" or "Why are all the rustfree parts so far away?".That thing didn`t come out of some local junkyard.Someone had to buy it and transport it east. It`s here for you to buy.If you need it,buy it.That`s all there is to it.(if Jay decides to sell:rolleyes)
I have one I paid $500 for stripped over 10 years ago. They were going for $800 at the time,so I jumped on it.I knew it was a wise investment back then.I know I was right, now.

You`ve got a gem there and if you sell it,it should pad you wallet accordingly.

Re: WIW? Western rust free AC cab in PA

Thanks for all the replies. NO, I am not interested in selling it, hell I just bought it. I just wanted to know if I got a good deal or not.

I bought it off a guy in central PA that owns a business specializing in western rust free parts for all makes and models of trucks. He showed me a nearly rust free 71 original paint 3/4 ton big block running and driving AC truck with parchment/white interior and tool stowage in bed. It took about 2-3 months but he found me a cab.

If any one is seriously interested in his info please PM me.

I almost forgot, I did tell him about the site.

Jason
