How much is a NOS OEM inner & outer grille worth?

First off, I'm not trying to buy or sell on this site

- my buddy has one for sale that I want - and he wants $500 for it.

Is this reasonable? What's the going rate?

Thanks

I'm assuming for a '72?I can't recall what they want for a nos grill around here, but I do know that I can barely get a repop outer for that kind of money.

that's a good deal, my buddy can get me gm parts for 30% off of list and an outer was still $412 cost, so that with the inner too is a good deal.

Re: How much is a NOS OEM inner & outer grille worth?

Thats a tough decision. At this point I would be starting to get really leery about buying any 35 year old plastic - especially since it is such a large long piece.

Why?

The composition of plastic makes it do something called outgassing throughout its life. Basically, because it is made of petroleum based products, part of that plastic composition dries out, evaporates out of the material.

So even though what you see is still holding its original form, you will notice it starting to crack easily.

I'd be really bummed to pay that much cheese only to hear that fateful **snap**.

I'd go with repops, simply because the molecular composition of newer plastic is more durable than older.

Thats not to say that I didn't wish it was any different. I like NOS parts as much as the next guy, but some things you can't control, and molecular outgassing of plastic - ALL PLASTICS - is one of them.

Sounds like a deal, but again I am with 72 Longhorn BB on the plastic. It will eventually start cracking much sooner than a new one, however the outer grille, that is a good price because odds are, it will fit 100 times nicer than a repop.
