drainplug

well I was up under the truck today taking a look about how I am going to install this floor shifter. Anyways, I got a good look at this 3 speed tranny. And it appears to me that there is a drain plug in the center on the very bottom of the tranny. Seemed normal to me, and I figured I ought to look into the best way to change out the fluid inside. So I start snooping around these old threads trying to figure out what's involved in the fluid swap. Well from what I found, either people didn't have drain plugs, couldn't find them, or they were located on the side. Am I supposed to have a drain plug on the underside of the tranny? And what's the best way to effectively change the fluid? Thanks guys

Yep. My 64 has draing plug on the bottom ond fill plug on the side (passenger side).

Swap fluids? Pull drain plug on bottom, let it empty. Put draig plug back.
Pull fill plug from side, fill until it runs out the hole, put fill plug back.
Done.

To fill I use a plastic gear oil bottle that has the cone tip, Valvoline is the most recent I used. Work it around till the tip is in the hole, you'll only get the bottle to about level, it'll hit the cab floor or whatever. Squeeze out what you can, it'll maybe be 1/3 to 1/2 bottle. (I used a qt bottle.) If that wasn't enough, refill the bottle from the other bottle (oh yeah, get two, though you'll hardly need all the fluid from one). Repeat til fluid flows out the fill hole.

My 3-speed is the same way..no plug...just remove one of the lower bolts and let drain.

Then fill thru the side.

I use a pump-style w/ hose on the one galloon jugs.
