Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
Ok, how low are you guys sittin with your air ride? I have 3" drop spindles on the front. I cut 1 round of coil out of the front springs, but now i'm not even sitting 1" lower with the S/s re-7 bags. I have a 37" x 6" or 7" tank. How many gal. is that? I'll post some pics sooner or later. Oh ya, just cruised up to Michigan today to p/u a 72 Chevy lwb, 79k truck, tw, pb, a/c p/s, all there, ochre/white, $1700, drove it on the trailer, for a buddy of mine.

No, not yet. I assembled it in a stock configuration to see what it looked like. How much can I remove from the bottom cup?

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
From what I've read they can go down to 3/4" total height. I kept mine at 1.5" because I wanted the RE7 internal bumpstops to be the first thing to bottom out. After I mod the inner fenders and re-route the exhaust I may go a bit lower with them.

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
With the 63-72 arms, you can take about an inch off. With the 73-87 arms, you can take them to about an inch. This assumes ***************** cups...

I've seen guys report that they're getting cups of differing heights form SD. That's why I quote the total height you can cut down to.

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
Do you have the early arms? Do you think you could trim them more without the bag rubbing? I tried to fit up some cups I have that are 3/4" and there is no way they'll work with the early arms.

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
I have '69 arms but I've never used 3/4" cups, only 1-1/2". I have seen a lot of people on here saying you can go to 3/4" including KPComponents. However, when I put mine in I wondered how well 3/4" would work. Seems like the bag would end up sandwiched between the arm and the upper plate when aired out, but maybe that is considered acceptable

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
Even aired up they sit on the arm. I don't see it happening- the 73-up arms are a different story altogether. Totally different design...

That leads me to believe that I have the 73+ arms on my truck already Gringo. I know I've been slacking but I'll get pics up soon. I've got my cups trimmed down to 3/4" and I have -0- rub issues.

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
I was wondering about this myself. I have an '82 front crossmember and re7 bags. My cups are 1" total height, and my bag rubs slightly on the rear edge of the coil pocket at full dump.

Yes, I have suicidedoors cups. My truck is a 72, so I will disassemble it soon and cut the cup down to 3/4" or so. I'll try to post some pics of before and after the mod. Thanks guys!!

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
3/4"?? Does that include the mounting plate or just the depth of the cup. Because the plate is about 1/4" thick.

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
So the depth of the cup would only be about 1/2"? Right?

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
Does anyone have pics of the 3/4" tall cups in a 63-72 arm? I do not see how this could possibly work, but i have been wrong before. Once.

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
I'm leaning toward your side on this now Gringo. Here are a few shots of my 1.5" cups (total height) in 63-72 arms. You can see that there is some contact between the bag and the arm when fully collapsed. However, it's no worse than on the top plate. I don't think I want to cut them down any further. So, even though I started by saying I've read 3/4" would work, I don't see how it's possible with these arms. I stand (sit) corrected

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
I think FrizzleFry is correct, it depends on the depth of the spring cup in the a-arm. On my '69, I didn't think I could have gone lower than the depth of the spring cup, or about 1" total height.
I never got around to cutting my cups because I liked the stance with the back uncut. I am going dropmember next time, I just need to find a truck.

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
From the looks of mine, I think I can cut about 1/2 or so from my cup. Here are a few pics of the way it sits now. Oh, and 1 bonus picture of Ashley Force and I. The beer and sun and Nitro had got to me by the end of the day.

Is the second pic aired out? With drop spindles or no? You should have clubbed her over the head and dragged her to your basement while you had the chance...

Re: Air ride installed, not much lower on 18's.
Still trying to understand this all also, it looks like w/ stock arms (71) that
I can't cut my cups that much like Frizzle said, but I also remember him in another post saying he had to trim his Swaybar cause it was into the bag, mine is not, maybe I have a slightly more slender set of bags? I need a lil more of the front, this is the aired out pic with the 15's and then the 17's you can't see the back but it needs to come down more, but if I do that I will be inverted I just wanna know what tall cups are? 1.5" or 2.0" so I can decide how much mine need to be trimmed, or I might just get arms. Edit: also added a side pic, all be it with the old rim set-up which are 15" and I am NOT interested in laying frame, way to old for that stuff and it gets driven pretty far when available. So I want to be able to run her all aired out incase I ever have a bag issue and I am a long way from home. Bottom pic is 25" front ctr of wheelwell, and 27.5" rear ctr of wheelwell, now with the 17's on it she is still 25" out front, and rear is now at 25.5"

I think any less than that you run the risk of the bag touching the arm. At least that's my understanding. Compare this picture to the one of FF's install. See how much of the cup is visible above the lower arm? You could cut about a 1/2" or so off the cups in this picture.
