5" drop... do I need to...

5" rear drop springs (ECE)...
Do I need to C-notch the frame? Or just remove rubber bump stops...
I have a '68 Short Wide, will probably run a 265/70-15 rear tire... will also have a 2.5" drop spindle in front with stock V-8 springs... probably with 255/70-15 front tires.
Any thoughts or pictures...

Re: 5" drop... do I need to...

71see10 has the exact drop you're thinking about running. He still has his bumpstops and says that it doesn't hit. I see no reason to install a notch for a 5" notch. A 6" drop is borderline depending on your driving habits. Here's a couple pics of his green one and my red one side by side. My truck has been lowered 1" more than his front and back but I think his tires are about 2" taller than mine in these pics (hint hint wink wink).

Re: 5" drop... do I need to...

Chuckels board name is 72bluz, His real name is chuck,he is my brother in law, lives right next door so I get to play with two trucks all the time!! There is a small story behind the name but thats for a different time. His truck is like mine, Both have 2 1/2 spindles in front with new stock height springs and 5" springs in rear with super track bar, shock relocators. Right now we both have 255/70/15 tires

Re: 5" drop... do I need to...

La Fayette is in the northwest corner of the state. We're in Walker county which actually touches TN and AL. The specs for my drop and tires are here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=143835&page=6 . I also wouldn't say that you don't have to do any mods for a 5" rear drop. We still relocated the shocks and used a super track bar kit on both Brian's and Chuckles trucks. Here's a pic of Chuckles it has an identical drop to Brian's.

Re: 5" drop... do I need to...

see ten's info...
"The rears are 17x9.5 with 4.75" of backspace with a 275/50. Up front is 17x8 with 4" of backspace and a 255/50. Tires are Nitto NT 450. My drop is... Front is a 2.5" drop spindle with a 1" drop coil. The rear has a 6" drop coil. I also used the Super track bar in the rear and an extreme drop trailing arm crossmember."
He wrote above info in another thread... (I edited some "where he bought" info out...) See above limnk in his post also.

Re: 5" drop... do I need to...

Thanks a ton. I think I am going to go about 1.5 more in the front, figured 1-inch on the springs, 1.5 on the arms and 2.5 spindles. 5-inches should be plenty.

Re: 5" drop... do I need to...

Ok, so here are my thoughts...
Front - 2.5" drop spindles w/ 235/75-15's (28.88" tall) -
FYI- 235/75-15 is slightly shorter & narrower than a 255/70-15 (29.06")
Rear- 5" ECE drop springs w/ 265/70-15's (29.65" tall)

Should be exactly what I'm looking for...

Thanks for all the input guys...

Re: 5" drop... do I need to...

You gotta be careful running a 15" wheel with a drop spindle. Some guys have had wheel/lower control arm interference and some haven't. I know mine rubbed when the wheels were being cut deep at speed. Brian's rub as well. I think a lot of it has to do with offset and wheel weight placement.
