electric vs. manual choke carb

Alright, can I have facts, figures, and opinions? I am going with an edlebrock, either 1405, or 1406. I'd like to know which to get.

the 1405 (manual choke) are jetted for performance (aka richer) than the 1406's (electric choke). i have the manual choke because they're jetted richer and i prefer manual choke over electric choke. when i pull out of the driveway and take off i turn the choke off. i dont like coming to a stop and having the engine idleing all high when it doesnt need to be.

Just my opinion but Electric is the way to go. I had the Edelbrock 1406 and it worked well for the set up I had, I've done some mods since then and am now using a Q-Jet, it takes about 8 mins to warm up in the morning or even after it's been sitting for a few hours. I'm going to try the Edelbrock 750 with the E Choke.

EDL-1406

Currently I'm using the 1406 and I gotta say I do like it. Starts right up (no frickin leaking float bowls!) even in cooler weather. As Nate68 said, the engine will rev high when it's started in cooler weather, forcing you to kick it down when you come to a stop. This wears off after about 4 minutes or so (unless it's below zero, but then you're so busy shivering for the first few minutes you don't care anyway).

Three things to consider.
1) Do you want to mess with a manual choke? That's mostly what it comes down to. I've messed with them on some and avoided it on others and I have to admit on a daily driver not messing with it is sorta nice. Kinda like not having to shift gears and hold the clutch in in traffic.

2) Is this vehicle going to have a real radical cam and all the high-po goodies? If so then you should probably lean toward the manual choke. If not then it really doesn't matter.

3) The instrument cluster: Do you have a switch for the choke now? Do you want as clean a cluster as possible? Etc.

I like the 1406, but then again I also have a couple of Fords in the garage, so my opinion might have to be thrown to the wayside.
