Building rear tank - what do I need?

OK, so I got my measurements and am having my aluminum tank built.
Basically the same as any other metal tank out there.
My only thing is I want to make sure I do everything right.

I have my sending unit on the way (universal 5 hole pattern 0-90 ohm).
I have my location for the filler figured out. ( http://www.classicheartbeat.com/mark...t_gas_door.htm )
I will be using a vent at the filler (see above link) - do I need any other venting?
One question I have - it is apparently against federal regulations to use a bottom mounted pickup (saw it today here: http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...prod/prd83.htm)
So, how do I go about doing that? (Using a mechanical pump of course). And, where do I get what I need.
What else do I need?

Thanks.

Re: Building rear tank - what do I need?

I purchased the pick-up tube assy from Tanks inc (I'm running their tank) plus a couple other things for about $36.00... but, I'm sure their pick-up will only work with 9-1/2" deep tanks...
I can get you a picture of it next week. I'm sure it would be easy to build, especially if your able to build a aluminum tank.
Also, there are thousands of racing fuel cells out there on the streets with bottom/rear feed fuel lines. I would put mine in the rear bottom of the tank if I were building my own.

I'm pretty sure what they are referring to are fuel cells like the one pictured below, which are not designed or legal for street use. They are inteded for offroad use only. If you are using a standard style sending unit you should be fine.

Re: Building rear tank - what do I need?

Bryan - I have seen the pickup tubes, and if that's all that's needed, then I could do that no problem. But if brak is right, then bottom mounted would be better anyhow. I may look into that just little farther.

If your sending unit has a pick up tube in it. I'm not familiar of any aftermarket sending units that have pick ups in them. But, I'm not as knowledgeable as I used to be to new products out there. I haven't worked behind the counter selling auto parts for 6 years now (Whew!!!!!)
