Dual Fuel Tanks
I am thinking about putting a second fuel tank in the burb. I was wonder where I can get a switch to use to switch between tanks. Also is there a way for the 2 sending units to read on the stock fuel gauge when the tank is in use? Thanks

I know you can get your gauge to read for either tank you are using, but I'm not sure how they do it. I'd call an RV dealer to get started. I know the guy I got my receiver hitch from does that kind of stuff too.

I have Duals and the factory(?) setup has a switch above the left side A/C outlet on the dash. If you don't have A/C just pretend for the moment. The switch is used to change over the sending unit wires to the gas gauge. The tanks are actually switched using a manual valve on the floor by the drivers side seat adjuster. This selects the tank you want to use.
This is old technology but it works. A better way to do this is to use a solenoid valve to change tanks using the same switch as the sending unit. The problem with the factory set-up is that the sending unit could be reading one tank and the gas valve on the floor switched to a different tank. No big deal...just details. J.C. Whitney has a electric operated solenoid valve. It's about the only place I've seen them listed. Don't know where you could find a manual one. If you go with an electric solenoid type of
fuel selector that uses a switch to select the tank...just use a relay in that circuit to also select which sending unit is used. That way, what ever tank is being drawn on will *always* match the fuel level sender.. Bubba..that's what I plan on doing someday. The problem with the factory set-up is that the gas lines have to be routed under the cab to get to the drivers side and then run back again to get to the fuel pump. Not a very clean way to do it. The solenoid and wiring is a cleaner way to do it. A double pole switch could also be used instead of the relay..again less clutter. Either way works though. I kinda was trying to say earlier that it was "old" technology and today ther are better alternatives.
