Frame swap. 69 to a 86
Has anyone done a body swap onto a 86 swb frame? I'm getting one for free for the front brakes and rear end, and was thinking of going 1 step futher and just swaping the bodies out. Has it been done? Too much of a pain?

The only thing I can think of...is to measure where all the mounts are on both frames. I have a 77 frame that is stripped down... I could go out and measure it...and measure my 69.

If you have time, that would be cool. As I do not have the 86 here at the time.
Thanks |

2 wheel drive... total waste of time. You need a flat frame, and the 73 - 87 is anything but flat.
4X4 you can do a custom body lift to compensate for the space. Either way, you'll have to relocate the rear axle forward, and also I think the body mounts would need fabbed. I wouldn't bother. I see no advantage personally. |

Like Andy (Longhornman) mentioned the trucks are 2 different wheel bases. You serve no advantage swapping frames. However, taking all the stuff from the later model (front end and rear axle) that is another story. Definitely worth the effort then.

I think it is only a 1" difference on the SWB.
