Side marker light retro fit?

OK guys this should be an easy one. I have a '69 longhorn with the regular reflectors on the side with no lights. I have heard that the delux lights from a '71-'72 will interchange but what about the lights? Do I just tap into the tail light/front marker light wires or is there some kinda adapter?

yep, for the rear, tap into the brown wire, and the ground.
For the front, you can tap into just the running light wire (can't remember which one that is off the top of my head) and a ground, and they will burn steady. If you want them to blink in oposition of the fronts, then tap into both wires going to the front. The wire for the directionals, will act as a ground and light up the side marker, but when it gets power to it (when the directional is lit up) the ground will be taken away, and turn off the directional.
Both ways is correct, I think 68 and 69's that were optioned with the lights were steady burn. I've seen '70 models wired both ways. I think in 71 they were all wired to blink

Badpeanut, i think sometime in 69 it changed. I have a set of the deluxe markers with out any light sockets in them and i don't think the deluxe started before that. Longhornman may know more about it as it looks like i may have an early 69.

in 70 they all came with lights, 68 and 69 had lights optional, unless it was a cab/chassis with daulrear wheels, then they were required along with clearance lights... all at added cost over base equipment.

Cool! Thanks guys. One more thing....where do I get the bulb socket/pigtails and what bulbs are correct (as correct as they would be on a truck that came with them)?

The 194 wedge bulbs are the correct lights for sidemarkers both front and rear. You can buy the pigtail/sockets at O'Reily's for cheap. This is one alternative to changing the wiring in your truck. This method would need a dual element bulb of some sort though. I scavenged an underhood wiring harness and made a jumper wire. The blue/green wires would go to the sidemarker.

194 buls is correct. 168 will fit and put out more light, but much more heat... I wouldn't go that route.
You can go to any junk yard and get your wires and plugs for a dollar each most likely.

I found a '70 in a yard with all the sidemarker harnesses, ripped them out and spliced them into mine. Now it is a "plug and play" setup as if it was factory.
