Finally, able to post ! . . .

And no, that is not a complaint against this site or anyone involved with it, I was just going crazy being able to read posts and not ask my own questions ! Impatience on my part.

Now that I am here I must say this is a sight on which I plan to get every bit of advice that I can in the quest to restore/maintain what is working on my Grandfather's truck. I will tell you he bought the truck brand new and was a farmer/cattleman. from the pictures you will see he drove that truck everywhere. And if he was using it to turn the path of a herd that he was transferring from one pasture to another and a young bull got a little upset, well the truck took the punishment ! The bed was diamond plated and a gooseneck hitch was bolted and welded to the bed. the hitch on the bumper was welded as well, in addition to a hole for a hitch pin for such equipped trailers.

The truck was ordered with an oil bath air cleaner, 4spd tranny, 4:11 positrac rear end and supplimental leaf springs that backed up the hd coil springs. It is going to be a lot of work, but since I have known this truck all of my life, it is a keeper.

Hope you all enjoy the pics.

He also had a small tool box on the passenger side step. here is a pic of an unopened can (no longer full due to seepage) of havoline motor oil. I had never seen a white can of havoline before, wonder if would be worth anything to anyone on ebay ?

Tool box:

Re: Finally, able to post ! . . .

Welcome from E. Kansas. I can rember that Havoline can quite well. That's what my dad always used in the 56 Belair that I used to have. Back in 69-72 when I was in college, that can of Havoline was 25 cents. The weight was stamped in the top of the can and it had a smell like no other motor oil. (bad) Neat truck you have and the history behind it is priceless. Good luck with your project.

Dave

Thanks for the pics - that is going to be a cool project you have there.
Nice that you have the glove box sticker (SPID Label) in tact.

Re: Finally, able to post ! . . .

Thanks everyone ! I left out the best story. When I was born in Dec. of 1968, my grandad drove from the Denton, Tx area. to Baylor hosp in Dallas, Tx. to see me. He got there late because of five o'clock traffic and threw a fit because he had missed viewing hours . . . after hearing his story and point of view the nurse pulled back the curtain so he could see me ! ( His famous quote from that story was " If I had a home in Hell and a home in Dallas, I would just as soon live in Hell than to have to fight that * G. D. * Dallas traffic ! " )

Re: Finally, able to post ! . . .

nice to have a truck with history. do your grandfather proud!

your oil can...... since it's a cardboard can, probably not worth more than a regular can of oil, but hey it's original to your rig!! keep it!

anyway, nice to have you here. Welcome from Shawnee, KS.
