GM55T rear ends
Hi Guys,
I've got a 60 stepside but I thought you guys might know the answer to my questions over here. As I understand it 55 to 64 1/2 ton 2WD GM pickups came with a GM 55T rear end. I've got a 3.90 gear in mine and want to go to a better highway gear. I've found 3.37 gears but the cheapest price I've seen is $350 (plus a kit) from Randy's Ring and Pinion. I couldn't find any GM 55T gears on the Richmond web site. Are there any other ratios available or any cheaper prices around?? Thanks for any suggestions. Re: GM55T rear ends
Check with Patrick's. Sorry I don't have a link. They have 3.38 gears. Not cheap tho'. If no one on here has the info check with the classic truck mags for an ad.

Re: GM55T rear ends
are your main concerns 6-lug and tall gears? toyota, jeep cherokee, 73'+ blazer and other suv's had 6-lug and taller gears. hey don't get me wrong i'm a chevy guy and a hot rodder at heart. dana built rearends for everything and still does.

Re: GM55T rear ends
^^^^^^^^^ Like he said, you may want to look for a whole rear end that is the same width as yours and just weld or change the spring pads to match, and bleed the brakes. may save you some $$$

Re: GM55T rear ends
I'm searching for the width (wms to wms) for the GM55T.
Anyone know it?

Re: GM55T rear ends
I believe 62" from WMS to WMS for the 55-57 trucks. I used a 12 bolt from a 64C10 with 3.07 gears and it worked great. I replaced the bearings, seals and fluid and welded on new leaf spring perches and cut off all the old stuff. Fits and rides good. Sorry, no pictures at the moment but check my build thread for updates.
