65 C10 Family Project - Idling Problems!
Well we finally got the motor fired up! Now we are having trouble keeping her idling. we have a eldebrock 650 and it sounds like it's staving for gas every 4 to 5 seconds, to a point were it almost dies and then kicks back in. if its running a 2k (rpm) it will drop about 800 before it kicks back in???
I also put a timing light on her, and it starts way advanced then it starts to to drop down to the timing mark, thats when it almost dies, then it jump back to being advanced to much again, and slowly start to come back down to the mark again, and this is the cycle it goes throu We have an HEI Distributor. It's been a long time since I had to get a new motor runing, any help, thanks |

Cup your hands over the carb or use a rag to somewhat choke it. If it picks up and smooths out, you definitly have a vacum leak, and it sounds like you do.

Re: 65 C10 Family Project - Idling Problems!
Hey guys thanks, forgot all about vacum leaks!!
But I did try 04Xrider idea and i did not get any change in idle untill I chocked it of all air possible, which made the engine stall. I think I'm going to send the carb out to be checked out. After all I did pick it up at a swap meet for $25 Mark |

Mark,
What type of a carb are you using - a quadrajet, holley, edelbrock, or maybe a dualjet two barrel? Have you tried setting the idle mixture screws? Was the carb bolted on with new gaskets, then were the carb to intake bolts evenly tightened? A little more info and a few select adjustments might be all thats needed. If all else fails there is a carb shop in your area, on market street which is right off of concord blvd if I remember correctly.
