Re: which is better drop springs or drop spindles

six inches is a lot to lower the front. maybe get a 1 inch spring to go with your spindles. I don't know about the 24" wheels, you might have to modify the inner fenders for clearance. These trucks look really good with a 4" front drop and 6" rear drop in my opinion. good luck.

Re: which is better drop springs or drop spindles

I think that you will be pushing it with 24's, I doubt they will fit, without extensive modification.

As for spindles vs. springs, I would always start with spindles and then go from there. The spindles will help to keep the geometry of the front suspension as close to original.

By the way....

The mod's don't like it when a thread is "ttt'd" within 20-30 minutes of initially being asked. Usually they will delete that post on the thread. I saw this happen in another thread today.

Any pics of your truck?

First in case ya didn't catch it the first time, I think this is active enough it doesn't need ttt all the time.

Second I wouldn't argue with these guys to much, theres enough knowledge on this board to blow your mind, a 30'' tire isn't going to fit, the pic you have yes it has 26's and it looks higher than stock. Besides I thought 80's caprices and monte carlo's where the hot ticket for donk's.

Re: which is better drop springs or drop spindles

there is no way you will fit a 30 inch tall tire under that with a drop without some extensive modifying. and if you do, you wont be able to turn. those trucks that have the 26"s are at stock height and are close already around the sides. not trying to crap on your idea but just helping ya

Re: which is better drop springs or drop spindles

I was planning on purchasing either a 4/6 or a 4.5/6 drop kit from ECE and then run 20X8 and 20X10 front and rear, respectively.

Anytime I've seen someone go larger than 20's they have to do either minor modification or major modification depending on the size they choose.

I can't see 26's on one of these trucks unless it either had modified/no inner fenders or it sat up in the air like a 4X4/ghetto cruiser...

Nothings wrong with them if you prefer that style. While you might find a few open minded people that will tell you looks alright, you won't find many of them here.

What does our opinion of those trucks you posted and their choice of wheels have to do with your question? You want to know what's better, spindles or springs, then you say your going to run 24's.

If you are going to run 24's you have two choices, raise it or cut it up. 24" rims with the related tires are not going to clear on a stock truck. Lowering it 3" regardless of how it's done will unsure that 24's will not clear.

You need to decide what's more important, a lowered truck or running 24's.

Re: which is better drop springs or drop spindles

Have you tried the wheels with the stock height spindals you have on the truck now? I would do that first and check my clearance than go from there. But I would prefer spindals over springs any day.

No way. For 24" rims to have a total height of 26" that would mean the actually tire would be 1" from the ground to the lip of the rim (the other inch is on top of the rim). The lowest of low profile tires are no where near that short. I know they look that way, but they are not 1" from the ground. You wouldn't even be able to drive it without bending them.
