Can anyone help me or tell me who makes the kit to take your stock column and make it so you can use it with a newer steering box. I think it is just a bearing that you put in the bottom of your stock shaft. i heard of the kit but have not been able to find any info anywhere. i would be great if someone knew or did one of these conversion that could give me info.

Re: stock sterring column conversion for 54 gmc
here is a link to "Classic Parts.com" conversion lower bearing, but the one I recieved was too big on the OD, & too small on the ID. I sent it back & had a teflon sleeve turned at a machine shop instead. Maybe youl have better luck than I

Re: stock sterring column conversion for 54 gmc
I cut the shaft to the length I wanted, reduced the diam. just a little on the last 1" (used a grinder) then ground opposite sides of the shaft flat to fit into a 3/4" double D Borgeson steering joint. It was not difficult to do, & didn't take long. You could weld a 3/4" double D shaft on the end, as an alternitive too.
