Detroit Diesel in 67-72 pickup from factory

Hello everyone and happy new year. I was hoping someone here could answer this questions for me. I have heard that a Detroit Diesel (im assuming a 3-71 or 3-53) was available in a 67-72 3/4 or 1 ton from the factory. It is rumored that there is one in the Salem Oregon area. Is this in fact true? Any have any pix of one? I would love to see.

Thanks

Jake

Happy New Year and Welcome to the site!!
I`m not sure there was a C-model diesel.I`ve been told the diesels that are in the 10-30 series listings were P-model applications.I`d love to know about a diesel truck, though.See what turns up with that one,if you can.

Drove GAMA goats in the Guard. They had a 3-53 Detroit with an SM465 4-speed behind, I believe. Other stuff, too, but that is the basic power train as I recall. It's been almost 30 years, though.

Yes, the 3-53 was available for a few years ('67-'69?) in the P-30 Step Van. There were rumors that a couple of GMC Toroflows (diesel version of the GMC V-6) were installed in pickups for testing. Some installed Toroflows on there own, there was a Toroflow in a '69 on Ebay last year.

A guy who was the head man at the GM dealership here in town told me they had trucks out with diesels in them testing.........Railroads and Fleets were interested in them. I never asked what diesels and he never said, sadly he passed away not long after. I learned alot about these old trucks from him........Was nearly a daily thing when I was at that farm, he'd walk up the road and over to where I was to B.S.
