Headliners, Stock/Custom/Non Existant - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Right now I have no headliner in my truck and it's looking pretty drab. I was debating on getting a black leather one made with a red bow tie in in to match my interior. Has anyone done something similar? I'd really like to see pics of all the different liners. Also, would the best way be to buy one and have it re-done, or have one custom made? Thanks in advance. You guys are great.

The factory headliners are easy to come by but not as easy to get up there. It's doable but have several hours set aside for the job and ask a lot of questions here.

What are the problems associated with getting one up and mounted?

The connecting tabs have to be broken off of the plastic trim because your cab won't have the little slots in the roof. I used like 1/4 inch screws to hold mine up and then glued the headliner itself. You will have to build a brace to gold the headliner up while the glue is drying. Even with 1/4 inch screws you have to be careful in the corners to now go through the roof. It is very close.

Then I think this is probably something I should have done before all the paint and body work was done. I think this is a mod that I'll put on hold for a while. Thanks for the input Mudder. You're always very helpful.

why can't you just cut the slots?

cause the tourch will burn the paint or holes in your roof!! serously i think it would be nearly imposable even with a die grinder or dremal but i think you could glue it with contact cement and just screw the trim on. i used spray adhesive and it held fine then i put the trim on, but i had the slots already

I have added the headliner slots on 2 of my trucks now. I drilled holes at each end of the slots and then used cutoff wheel to finish off the slot. It was alot of work to get them in just the right location. I ended up cutting out the inner roof panel in an old cab with the slots already there to press up and use as a template.

I used 3M double face tape on the headliner and trim.... I removed the tabs from the trim first of course... It hasnt moved or fallen yet...
