I will be installing a gen 3 engine in my 70 gmc. what is everybody doing about the speedo? i want to use stock gauges.also how are they making the cruise work? also who makes a nice set of headers?,and can you use the stock gm compressor with a aftermarket a/c set up? i will prolly be going with a cable type throttle body. THANKS!!

You've been pretty quiet for being here for 7 years. 62 posts? Longhorn man does that at lunch. There are a lot of guys doing this, and it sounds like from what I read there are millions of options depending on the cash flow. Do an advanced search on google (type in the domain and then put gen 3 motor or soemthing related that will pull up the posts) you'll probably find quite a bit. Good luck.

Re: GEN 3 5.3 6.0 QUESTIONS.headers,a.c,cruise.
I'm putting a 5.3L in my truck, so here is what I'm doing.
I'll be using some stainless steel camaro headers. I don't have my transmission yet, so I can't tell how exactly they'll fit, but when I test fitted them, it looks like the collector will be in the frame rails, so they tuck up real nicely. I'm using an '04 wiring harness, which used drive by wire. So you have to have a special gas pedal and the control box. I believe for cruise control, all you have to do is basically wire up a switch to this little box. I'll be using an aftermarket speedo, but you may look at "jags that run" website. I believe they have a converter box that will give you a mechanical input for the speedo. The computer needs the electronic signal as part of controling the tranny. |
