Ack, possibly another truck, make me stop

So today I was at a customers and across the street there is a 68 short stepper. Its been there quite awhile. No engine no trans. No glass. Going to need the usual rust repairs...maybe a little more. I didnt look that close to be honest. Ive seen this truck many times over the last couple of years, its just sitting.

Today I pull up and the owner is outside. I yelled to him...Hey when you gonna get that thing on the road. He proceeds to tell me he has this and that etc etc...the usual plans people have.

I said ok, I guess its not for sale then. Then he tells me he would take a grand for it. He told me its the rare stepside. I said it has potential but thats way too much money considering how much work it needs. He asks me to make an offer.

Man I do NOT need another truck. BUT (lol) I was considering low balling him and saying I might go 350 bucks for it.

68 Short step, no spare tire cut out...this could be cool..right? LMAO...if I dont pick this up Ill let you local guys know where its at.

What ever amount of money that is burning in your pocket for this truck your talking about, should be spent on one of your projects at hand. Once the money is spent you'll feel and sleep better knowing you made progress. I recently spent a bunch of money that I should not have and regret it. A FOOL AND HIS MONEY ARE SOON PARTED. John

Those stepsides are really RARE...better jump on it. seriously, I agree with the previous advice - think of what 350 bucks will buy you on your current project. Priorities, man, priorities.

I would try to low ball him, if he takes it great! You get a cheap truck. If he declines, so be it.

That seems like a pretty good deal. A little more than Im willing to spend for something I would just tuck in a corner of the barn for who knows how long.

I thought it was a a fair price for a great running, pretty decent shape 67 short step. If my interests had not shifted in other vintage vehicles ......I would be keeping it. I am currently thinning my fleet of 67-72's to make time/room for new vehicles

Re: Ack, possibly another truck, make me stop

Go for it, think of it as an investment. These trucks are starting to get rare around here in Southeast Missouri.

Last weekend my son, grandson and I were out cruising around looking for old cars and trucks, we stopped by and talked to a guy we know that has a 70 he is fixing up to use as a daily driver. He told us of a truck he saw in a guys backyard a while back and thought the guy would part with it.

We drove over to where it was supposed to be and finally found it. As it turns out it is a '67 small window with a six cylinder, 4 speed, C-20 long stepper. It is the bare bones variety with basic gages and no right side sun visor. It doesn't run and has the normal rust.

The guy wanted $400 for it and we finally got him down to $300. We pick it up Sunday. I will take some pictures then.

Are you CRAZY? I have been looking for a 68 short stepper for years. I would buy it in a HEARTBEAT! If you have projects in progress and others in waiting then it can be a tough decision. I know, I have many of both! Keep working!
