Mount Next to Fuel Tank

I recently bought a 1972 GMC Super Custom and was changing out my sending unit and noticed some kind of spring loaded bracket. What is this? I'm thinking that it's a mount for a jack or fire extingisher? It's located on the passenger side in the corner against the back of the cab.

Thanks Crazy Longhorn! Now, where can I get a factory jack? Are they easy to come by?
