Stuck between a rock and a hard place...
So I have always liked mustangs ever since my friend managed to score a '67, but now I have an opportunity to own my own. A '64 1/2 289 4bbl and a 4speed. (its in pieces, but all there without the engine and transmission. I can get them easy.) But I just bought my truck... Its so hard for me to decide... The truck I have only put about 1800 into including buying it, the Mustang would only set me back 1500. Unfortunately I can't have both (Not enough space...) Any suggestions? Decisions decisions.

Re: Stuck between a rock and a hard place...
I had the same situation a while back. I just decided to keep everything. I would say go with what you think you would have the most fun with and not mind spending alot of money on. There are alot of ups and downs to having a truck but also with a stang that old too. 64 stang is going to cost you a whole lot more money long term if you plan on restoring it right. Harder to find parts with the stang as compared to the truck. You can be alot more creative with the truck than you can with the stang, without breaking the bank. I live in los angeles, i dont see alot of CLEAN and yet unique short bed trucks down here. I do see old stangs everyday though.

Do they have 3' high, 6' long snow drifts in Sacramento, Ca??? I agree with Bishops Trucks. 64 1/2's are hard to find. If it is a true one, Apr to Jun '64 build, get it.

Re: Stuck between a rock and a hard place...
Get the mustang. especially if it is a 64 1/2. (I have a 66) Parts are not hard to find. I would think in Calif it would be easier yet to find original stuff. If not, just about everything for the mustang is reproduced. Look at Mustang Monthly magazine. Many vendors and many great articles on how to. I have every months mag going back to 1986.
Look at which vehicle will be worth more in a few years. Think if you would restore it to factory or Restomod. Find a 77-80 Granada or Lincoln Versailles front and rear disc brake assys-direct bolt in. Soup it up a little. Nice ride. Then again, I'm biased........

Re: Stuck between a rock and a hard place...
Get the mustang, you can get parts for those just like you can with these trucks. I had a '68 coupe and a '69 convertable, 2 brothers I grew up with that lived down the street from me had 9 Mustangs between the 2 of them. '64 1/2s are hard to find so you should jump on it. You can always find another truck to build.

Re: Stuck between a rock and a hard place...
I agree w/ Phuloi68 & Bishop. My son and I restored a 65, bought from the original owner, pulled the tired old 6 and dropped in a 302. Also there seems to be plenty of parts lately on c/l, at least here in Phx they are. But try to keep the truck.

Re: Stuck between a rock and a hard place...
O-kay how can it have a 289 4bbl and 4 spd and then you say it's without eng & tranny but it's all there?????????
Just bustin' your ball's but seriouslly you have to consider your truck is your daily transportation i assume and the stang is in pieces and it may take a looooooooog time before all the pieces ever get reunited and the truck is well.......a Chevyand presentlly running. The choice is an easy one for me...... |
