Headliner Questions?

I was wanting to reupholstery my headliner. Anyone done it before?

I was also thinking about fiberglassing it (maybe).

I have a 15" LCD monitor that needs to be installed and I'm thinking about installing it in the headliner in front of the passengers seat.

I know I know they dont belong in these trucks but....

Re: Headliner Questions?

The factory replacement headliner material can be purchased at many upholstery and sewing material outlet shops. The right glue to use is an upholstery glue that most auto upholstery shops have, BUT go to the hardware store and purchase some "WELDWOOD CONTACT CEMENT". I get it in the quart containers, so that it does not dry out, if I don't use it all. It is basically the same stuff and works well. I went to Walmart and bought one of their cheapo Campbell Hausfeld canister paintguns from the automotive department and backed off on the needle setting so that the glue would spray through it. Clean the old cloth material and remove the dried up foam off of the fiberglass formed headliner and then cut/fit the new material to allow plenty of overhang. Spray the headliner first with the glue---it will come out in a stringy consistancy and then spray the foam backside of the material next. Don't spray it on so thick, that it soaks through---THAT IS BAD. Allow a little time (not much though) and then turn the material over and apply to the headliner, pressout any wrinkles and fit to the contours. Cut the openings to allow visors and such---you are done. Clean the gun with paint thinner and or lacquer thinnner.

Re: Headliner Questions?

I figure it like this a new headliner is like $200. So if I mess mine up, no loss.

Right now I am in the process of removing the glue from the headliner. Since it is already made of out fiber glass I wonder what would happen if I just "painted it" with resin....?
