Roll up rear window?

I'm considering a roll up rear window for a '75 swb stepper. I'm not really sure if I'll do it. Has anyone done this?

I've got one in my crew cab. It was made by CR LAURENCE 20 yrs ago. They no longer make them. I believr the guys at www.onepieceproducts.com are working on one right now but have yet to release anything as yet.

Re: Roll up rear window?

Depending upon the cost, this has the potential of being a huge seller.

Re: Roll up rear window?

Yea i check onepieceproducts website pretty much everyday hoping that they have those back windows and rubber less fronts for sell. It would be nice if they would release them before I buy new glass.

Are you talking about the rear glass? If so, I can tell you to go ahead and get the glass for them if you are going to have the truck ready anytime this year...

So I guess they won't have either one of these ready anytime soon?

Re: Roll up rear window?

I'll have to trudge out through my backyard to get to it this Sunday hopefully it'll be warmer than it is now (-15) so I can knock some of the snow off the thing and get the back doors to open.

Re: Roll up rear window?

Back when this one I have was being produced they were retailing for around $1200.00
A friend of mine was woking for Gator glass in the early 90's and came across it in their inventory. They wanted it gone so he bought it at cost (795.00) and installed it in his old truck. I bought the truck from him about 6 months later.

Re: Roll up rear window?

Either one? I am only talking about the rear roll up glass, I am 99% certain that it won't be available this year.

What is the "other" think you are talking about?

Re: Roll up rear window?

I was thinking of using a rear window channel form a sub and cutting it to fit the stock rear window opening.

Re: Roll up rear window?

Well after 3 1/2 weeks of below 0* high's, we've finally broke thru the cold snap saturday. In fact it's 1 p.m. here right now and the temp is a sweltering 48*!!!! Time to get out to the crew cab and get the pics of my retractable rear window like I promised. the other week. Wish me luck!!! Hope i don't get stuck out there!!!

Re: Roll up rear window?

Ok I finally made it back inside and yes I did get stuck out there too!! But a quick call to a buddy of mine and he came to the rescue got me unstuck and back on the road.
So on with the pics... Mind you this truck hasn't moved in quite some time so yes that IS MOSS AT THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE GLASS!!!

Re: Roll up rear window?

Here you can see how the glass sits almost straight up as opposed to following the outer lines of the cab. In the second pic below you'll notice the lower corners of the glass are trimmed down to facilitate the tracks inside the lower frame assembly.

Re: Roll up rear window?

And here's what it looks like inside the cab of the truck. You lose about 2 1/2 " of space behind the seatup top for the seat to go back all the way but in a crew cab, who cares? It's not going to effect the driver one bit!! At the bottom you lose almost all space behind the seat because of the housing for the glass. It's not very thick it's just the anlge it sits inside the cab at. CRLAURENCE designed it to be as compact as possible and still work for years.
The bottom pic is of the motor. All the cables and guides are inside the housing. I made the mistake of opening it up once before to take a look at the internal workings of it. JEEEEZ WAS IS EVER A MAJORLY SUPER P.I.T.A TO REASSEMBLE!!!!

As far as install goes, it uses the factory back glass rubber seal and installs from the inside out as opposed to a conventional glass or slider that is installed form the outside in.

Re: Roll up rear window?

I'd love to put something like that in my truck. How well do you think it would fit in a regular cab? Any idea if it would be uncomfortable or create any problems?

Re: Roll up rear window?

I had it in a regular cab for a few years. the only problem I had with it was lost leg room to straighten out my left leg(bad Knee gotta constantly "pop" it back into alignment) but I made due then I found my crew cab got rid of the other one and now here it lies.

dormant.

waiting.

Oh, my god, is that snow? This CA native doesn't know what that looks like!

...love the starfleet bumper sticker, btw.

OT, seems like you could take an assembly out of a Jeep or Toyota 4runner and mod to fit? Wonder what the specs are on the rear roll up window for the old Cherokee and Wagoneers...

Re: Roll up rear window?

I would have to have something a lot slimmer to go into a reg. cab. I was thinking about an inch thick. I have the bench all the way back in my truck now and still feel like I need more leg room.
