Car seats in our trucks?
I have seen lots of S10 seats, late model sierra seats, F150 seats, etc.....and people are telling me it is pretty straight forward.....but what does it take to put a seat from a non-truck based vehicle (aka a car) into our truck?
I am looking at a bench seat from a deville, and wanted to know what it would take, since I assume it is going to sit much lower than a factory truck seat.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
I'm using electric, heated seats with lumbar out of a Subaru Outback and they are almost a direct bolt on. I had to cut part of a bracket off and drilled holes in the floor, but they fit very well with how they mount and look great.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
I think most car seats will be too low and you'd need to fab some brackets to raise them.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
I have buckets out of a 80 AMC spirit I had to raise them about 1 1/2 inches and they are still about an inch too low.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
Hey Brad, how tall are you?
And when you sit with them, what kind of position are you in relation to the steering wheel and the dash? Just curious (height, etc.) (also - what year outback?)

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
the problem you'll have with the caddy seats, they are very thick, and that'll push you a couple inches forward... unless you are a shorter guy, you'll feel crammed.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
Agreed, when i bought my truck the PO put in Caddi buckets. They are nice and the leather is quality but I am 5'5" and I am cramped. But they have armrests. It looks like all he did to install them is drill out a few blocks for longer bolts to go through on some corners. Not sure which ones though as I am inside and its below zero outside.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
i have a set of heated, power, tan leather out of a 2007 lexus with side airbags and i am 6'1 260lbs and a bit of leg room was sacrificed but with the truck lowered and the lower seats it feels as if im driving a big kids go-kart! they fit just perfect (size wise) top of the seat just at the bottom of rear window, but i had to fab up some brackets and drill new holes, the 2 holes on the outsides closest to the doors fit but i wanted them in there good.without the gas tank you could gain an inch or two,and i want to go that route anyhow.....but so much to do so little money to fund all of the toys!!!! i cant fully extend my arms or legs but its comfortable enough to dog around town..

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
I have two Monte Carlo buckets in my 70....had to fab up a few 1x2 spacers to raise the seats to stock height, but it was very easy....had to drill two holes on each side.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
Might sound like I'm nitpicking, but everyone who has posted their seat setup and for everyone posting in the future in this thread, please remember to include what year the donor seats you installed came from
This is probably one of the most important things you can tell someone about your seats

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
Sure woulda if I knew....mine are still a mystery....they look later model but have no seat belt hook or hole for a tab. Seats in cars don't change too much either...much like GM, the seat tracks are very similar over many years of the car's run.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
Ok, to answer some questions- I'm 5'10" and although I sit a bit lower than ideal, these are so much more comfortable than any other seat I've had in the truck (and I've gone through alot!) I have PLENTY of room for the steering wheel, etc. No danger of being scrunched up. I just can't recall what year they're out of, but fairly recently, say around 2003 Subaru Outback. Built in seat heaters and electric seat height adjustment. I may recover them in black leather when I get my new truck.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the inner bracket next to the tranny hump isn't the same height as the outer bracket which bolts on, so you can see my make-shift shim underneath. Also, the rear inner bracket (not shown) needs part of it cut off so that the seat sits level. Oh, and also what attracted me to these initially is that the seat back isn't bulky front to back like most seats and they've got removeable headrests which I wanted.

Re: Car seats in our trucks?
We have a winner! I just looked up '03 Outback on eBay and the two listed were the same.
