what to do
OK so the 72 I just got decided to eat a piston. Now I'm thinking of swapping the running gear to the 63. If I did would it be easier to swap suspension or the body? What is the difference in the frames?

poorboy:
Sorry to hear about the engine malfunction. Are you thinking of putting the '72 sheetmetal on the '63 frame or the '63 sheetmetal on the '72 frame? Why not just swap motors? The frames are not the same and there is a fair amount of fabrication/modification to swap, in either direction. |

Re: what to do
I was thinking of putting the 63 sheet metal on the 72 frame. If it's a ton of fab work I'll just swap suspension. I thought about just swapping motors. Maybe this is a sign from someone telling me I should stick with the 63. I was mailnly selling the 63 because the 72 was a driver. If it's not going to be a driver maybe it will be a donor.

Re: what to do
Being partial to the '60-'66 Chevy trucks, there are fewer of them, in the mainstream, than the '67-'72, so I would go with the '63. Many guys like to do the front end swap on the '63-'66 Chevy trucks for the power disk brakes, but I like my as stock as possible with the factory shoes.
By far an engine swap is easier than a frame, body or front end swap, especially when you are mixing and matching years. In any case, good luck, whichever way you decide to go. |
