Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Notice the description (RARE , HARD TO FIND, ALL ORIGINAL , MATCHING NUMBERS BIG BLOCK 402 SUPER CHEYENNE), Also notice the VIN CS141F801209. The VIN looks like a 6 clyinder '71. I wonder which numbers match?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=120223292669

I kindly asked to see a photo of the Glovebox label. I'll let you know his response.

Here's his response to the request for a photo of the Options label.

"Dear dtippmann,

it has a new glovebox, this truck has every option for that year"

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

looks like a sweet truck, BUT, if it's a numbers matching "72" as he says, why does it have 67-71 doors, 71 door panels, no super tailgate handle cover, no headliner trim(as already stated). sounds like he's trying to con people who don't know what they're looking at hoping to make a killing off it.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

i thought that all original means just what it says all original. If its original then there wont be any frame off restoration and when it original it wont have all new stuff like NEW BODY CHROME, BILLETT GRILLE, 20' REAR BOYD WHEELS, 17' FRT. BOYD WHEELS, MATCHING BOYD STEERING WHEEL and it wouldnt have EVERYTHING INSIDE IS NEW. It looks like to me some redid the whole truck and just made it to look rare what a bunch of crap. and another thing if its so original then it wouldnt have a "it has a new glovebox, this truck has every option for that year" oh well thats the way people are. I guess when i get my truck done how ever many miles i put on it thats is going to be the original miles on the truck ha ha what a joke.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

I sent him an e-mail about the truck asking why the VIN doesn't line up (it indicates a 1971 6 cylinder) and got this response:

"SORRY MY WIFE LISTED TRUCK, IT IS A 1971 I TRIED TO CHANGE IT BUT IT WOULD NOT LET ME, THE 402 BIG BLOCK IS THE ORIGINAL ENGINE,THANKS"

I agree with brandonh, it appears that someone just took an old truck with few options and added stuff in an attempt to make it look rare. If the truck was so heavily optioned, why get rid of the original glovebox with the label? Wouldn't you want to keep it in order to validate your claims?

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

I am going to sell mine with the rare 383 option and overdrive. Even though I used the original paint color and it is new paint it is "original" it sounds like it is not an original idea. the truck does look good though.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

That's what I don't get, the description at the start says "ALL ORIGINAL", but later on it says "EVERYTHING IS NEW...NO EXPENSE SPARED". Isn't that just a little contradictory?

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Does it really matter all that much? I mean if he was asking 100000 maybe. But he is just selling the truck, the previous owner could have told him this. He is not selling it as a 100 point restoration . It has boyds, billet wheel and grill.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

Yes it does matter! Look at his feedback. Claiming it is a Rare Original does nothing but inflate the price and screw the buyer. We who know better should help prevent fraudulent listings from screwing less-knowledgeable potential buyers. Clearly this is a nice looking truck. It should stand on it's own rather than being billed as something it clearly is not.

A likely fish story. It is a nice truck though, too bad it is in the hands of a con. maybe he will pull out like the last one did last week.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

It is a nice truck, but I tend to agree with DANTIP. The description and his replies to our questions are just too contradictory and fishy. This guy is clearly trying to make a quick buck by billing this truck as something that it isn't. Unfortunately some poor unknowledgeable sod may very well be taken by this blatant scheme....we shall have to wait and see!

Although he is "padding" the description, it's still nice looking. I guess no expense spared did not count for the van column and the "brand new" fuel gauge.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

I think we`d all like to take a basic shortbed and add what options we want to "create" a "factory-look" hard to find CheyenneSuper big block truck.Nothing wrong with that, but that`s what it would be,a customized truck with factory parts.
Why would a glovebox door on a 40,000mi. truck need replaced?Every option?Does it have a wood floor,AM/FM,door edge guards, sliding rear glass, below eyeline mirrors(sport mirrors were standard),step bumper(sport bumper was standard),manual throttle, tow hooks, etc?I never knew leather seats were an option.Basically what we have here is a guy that will tell you vinyl is leather.

No matter how you look at it, this is a nice looking truck, but it is climbing pretty high in price. The guy is obviously full of crap, but he does have a nice machine.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

I appealed to this guy to correct his listing by sending the following message:

"I am confident this is not a matching numbers truck. The S in the VIN (second character)denotes a 6-cylinder engine. Please see the VIN decoder in the attached link. Please update your listing information to accurately describe your truck. Many people put "clones" together but that is what they are is clones. Representing a clone as an original is fraudulent. This looks like a very nice truck and will bring good money without misrepresenting the authenticity of the rare/desireable options.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

i think the guy is a little misinformed,( the seller)
is it All original? well no, but its pretty correct.
lets look at it this way, if i took a real low miles big block truck and tore it all apart to paint it and get it looking new again, and found cab rust that i could not repair, well i would find a better cab and replace it. if thats what was done, most likely all he knows is that when it came from the factory, this is what it was like. not defending the guy just giving the benefit of the doubt. A lot of the times i find that individual sellers are wildly off the mark. Usually they think that a reasonably nice driver is rare and worth the price of a museum quality restoration. They aren't in the hobby and don't know the real value of what they have or the "originality" of the vehicle. and they will sell it to someone who is in the same boat as they are. the buyer wants a truck like that and he buys the best one he can afford. and never checks the serial numbers to verify if this a real good find or just a nice looking truck.
and in the process, both parties may be as innocent as they can be.
the down side is, the prices of these trucks go through the roof just like this one will. that being said its a sharp looking ride.

Re: Possibly Another Rare Corvette Option?

...but when someone who knows their stuff tells you an absolute fact about the "numbers" (accompanied with a link to the numbers decoder)that is proof positive that the most important "number"(letter) in the truck says it`s a factory 6-banger and you still represent it as a factory "numbers matching" big block piece, that`s fraud. You don`t talk "numbers" if you don`t know anything about them. You definately don`t highlight your sale with them.
It`s a fantastic truck. This is about integrity of the hobby.
