Thoughts and time with the 2000 Vin 5 2.2 Flex fuel?

Anyone else running a Vin 5 in their s10. Mine is a 2000 short bed single cab 5speed base model. The only thing i don't like is the cost of the fuel filter. Anyone run into any problems or are these just the best built things out there???

Love the new s10 forum btw. Thanks

Re: Thoughts and time with the 2000 Vin 5 2.2 Flex fuel?

I bought a 2000 with the Flex-4 engine that summer since it was the first time gas hit $2.00 a gal around here,(Oh, for the good old days,Lol!), and the dealers were offering great buys on them. All my other trucks use plenty of fuel and I wanted this for a run-around-truck. It only has 47k on it and I've never changed the filter. I was going to one day until I went to buy the filter and didn't have enough cash on me! They are quite proud of that little thing. I need to change this filter soon. There has not been an E85 pump within 75 miles of me and I've never run it.

Most GM vehicles that are flex fuel have extremely expensive filters, the good news is that if you aren't running E85 in them then most of them will take the normal filter. Not sure that the S-10 will but I know that you can do it with the monte carlos and the impalas that are E85 capable. But I would think that as long as the filters are the same demensions and have the same ends it would be ok. The only difference in the two filters should be that the E85 filter is designed so that the ethanol won't eat the guts out of it.

I will have to look into it. The one on my truck has a wire running into it. Maybe it's just hooked to a service light.

My 2000 2.2 Vin 5 Flex fuel S10 fuel filter has the return line built into the filter. 2 in and one out. run about $40 at auto zone. Not fun.

I don't know for sure on the S-10s but I am sure you could find some information on one of the S-10 forums, just ignore the high school kids and all the BS you have to wade through.

wow, at least they came down, i just havn't bought one in so long because of the cost. LOL

I've been told the Vin 5 only came in the 2000, short bed, 2.2, 5 speed, single cab, non LS package. Seems GM is making up the money the lost from me on the cheep truck package with fuel filters.

Yeah if they are a 2 in 1 out then the regular just gas filter probably won't swap over to them as it is just a 1 in 1 out, unless they changed filters since 97.
