U Joint Help
Can anyone help me with u joint replacement in my 72 K10. I want to replace all of them.
Front driveshaft Rear driveshaft Spicer's web site had lots of different ones but no help on which ones to get. Are there specific ones that I should be aware of? Does anyone have part #'s? Thanks |

Re: U Joint Help
I am not sure what size they are. I do know that we want better ujoints to replace the OEM units. Therefore sizing would be identical to whatever the OEM size is on a 72 Chevy K10 SWB.

Re: U Joint Help
The rear shaft is easy, you'll need 2 1310 series joints:
5-785X - Spicer non-greaseable 2-0785 - Neapco Performance Dynamic non-greasable 1-0153HD - Neapco Heavy Duty greasable The front shaft is a little more complicated, mid 72 they switched from a spicer style joint (1310) to a saginaw style (3R) on the CV end of the f. shaft. If it has an open joint retained with u-bolts on the CV end its a spicer style, so you'll need 3 more 1310 series joints, same numbers as the rear shaft. If it has a four bolt flange on the CV end you have the saginaw style and will need 1 1310 joint and two 3R joints: 5-795X - Spicer non-greaseable 2-0795 - Neapco Performance Dynamic non-greasable 2-3011HD - Neapco Heavy Duty greasable On top of this you'll also need a centering kit for the CV end of the front shaft: 7-0081 for a spicer style 2-9302 for a saginaw style If you've never rebuilt a CV head before I'd highly recommend letting a driveline shop do it, they can be a real PITA, even if you know what you're doing! |
