2 questions, lift and steering

I did some searching and couldnt really find what I needed so I thought I would ask again. The steering on 85 3/4 4*4 (origianlly 1/2 ton) wanders a lot but mainly at speeds below 40 mph. It does wander a bit at higher speeds but Its not as noticable. I have checked the frame at the steering box and there arent any cracks, it does have dual steering stabilizers but they look pretty old, also the truck has what looks to be 6" lift springs in front and only 4" block in the rear. Could the problem just be a bad steering box?

My second question is about the lift in front, can I just remove one of the leafs to make it sit level? I would rather lower the front a little than lift the rear.

Have you had it aligned? Sounds like the toe is outta whack...either that or bad tierod ends/draglink ends...
Do ya have a dropped draglink or a raised steering arm???

Not yet but I have an appointment for this weekend to get it done. Forgive my ignorance but is toe when the tire leans to one side / ? It does have a 4" raised steering arm

Re: 2 questions, lift and steering

Toe "in" is when the tires point towards each other when looking at front of vehicle....toe "out" is the opposite.
Generally, having a little toe in, @ 1/8" or so....tracks better.
If your tires are 'leaning'....thats camber. Jack the truck up and graba tire at the top and bottom and pull alternately on each...if it moves, you've got bad balljoints...or wheel bearings

It could be a lot of different thinks. Tires? Steering linkage worn? Good question for the 4x4 forum.
