Eng ID
Is there an easy way to tell if an I6 is a 250 or not with out looking at the engine number? Planning a trip to the pick & pull.
Thanks, Guy |

Re: Eng ID
I think the engine mounts are straight across on a 250 and offset on a 292. there are other diff's ,but the mounts are the easiest way.

Re: Eng ID
The lifter covers on the 292 are 6 inches tall I believe. And 4 inches tall on the 250.

Re: Eng ID
I have a 250 6cyl in my truck now and the plates are 4" and the mounts are straight across. both those guys are right on the money.

Re: Eng ID
Telling the difference between the 292 and the rest is pretty easy as the others have mentioned, but telling the difference between a 250 and say a 235 is a bit thougher. Even if you run the numbers on mortec.com, mine showed that it was either a 250 or 235. Seems the best way to really tell is to open it up and look at the pistons. If they are dished then it is a 250. Sounds suspicious I know, but that's the best I could come up with. All was confirmed once I measured the bore though.
Sorry this wasn't more help. Shawn

Re: Eng ID
