cranking problems
put a new carburetor on and fuel pump but still having problems. sorry about the little info. I put a new gas tank in and fuel pump and carburetor and added some gas and it won't crank. I'm still in the process of checking to see if there is fuel getting to the carburetor. the carburetor is a rocheshester one barrell. the new one i got had the wrong bottom on it, wouldn't fit the studs on the manifold, put the one off the old one onto the new one.
Oh yeah by the way the engine is a 250 in-line 6. Last edited by bigblock66; 03-14-2008 at 02:56 AM. |

Re: cranking problems
YES. more info please. lets us know what the problem was, what you may or may not have changed, and what it is doing. but other than that did you check to see if the fuel was flowing?? did you check the condition of the plugs, wires, rotor and cap? did you check your timing??

Re: cranking problems
Give the throttle linkage a few shots while you're looking down the throttle bore. If there's gas in the carb, you should see a few shots of fuel into the venturi from the accelerator pump. That's my quicky test.
Next, is there a spark? Pull the wire from the coil to the distributor and stick a loose plug in the wire and touch the plug to the manifold or head. Then crank it (DON'T hold the plug while doing this...) and look for spark. If there is, your primary and coil check out. Next, put the temporary plug in the #1 spark plug wire and reconnect the coil wire to the cap. If it still sparks, the distributor is good, although the timing could still be way off. If it doesn't, then your cap or rotor are suspect. If you make it this far successfully, the engine should bang at least somewhat, even if it won't run. Incidentally, what engine are we working on here, anyway? Keep feeding the info and we'll help you get this figured out.

Re: cranking problems
hummm if what greg64 said does not fix your problem it might be that you put the bottom end of a diff carb on a diff top. could be a vacumn leak from a gasket or maybe a blocked off port from the part chage on the carb.
