Factory shifter boots for 4-5-6 Chevy K10
I am in the process of doing a frame-off on my friend Lee's '66 Chevy K10 lwb fleetside truck. We are dressing out the interior and looking for a source for good, quality reproduction shifter boots for the SM420 floor shifter and 4x4 shifter.
I have a few stock 4-5-6 Chevy K10/K20 trucks with the factory shifter boots and have been unable to locate a good quality factory reproduction. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your time and suggestions. I will also post in the Parts For Sale forum. |

Re: Factory shifter boots for 4-5-6 Chevy K10
Hey Tony, I see Classic Parts has the shifter boot as part #40-611 and I'm sure LMC would have these as well (I used an LMC one for the SM465 in my 77). Don't know about the 4x4 transfer case shifter boot, though. Could you use something from 73-87?

I have posted a topic in the Parts For Sale in the '67-'72 section, in hopes of getting some leads. I am not familiar with the '73-'87, but if they are available, look close to factory and fit properly, I would consider using them. I am sure many of the years are interchangeable and thanks for the suggestion. Please let me know if you run across something to fit the application. |

Tony, here's LMC's page for the 73-87 boots. Is #6 even close?

Re: Factory shifter boots for 4-5-6 Chevy K10
I have been kicking around the idea of using shifter boots from the '67-'72 era trucks, but didn't check into LMC Truck or other aftermarket suppliers, even though I am there or at Classic Parts, at least once a week during a build. Although they may not be exact, they do look very similar to the factory boots I have in my '66 Chevy K10 lwb fleet stocker and will do the trick.
Thanks for the hand-up suggestion and sharing the link. I am sure there are many cross-over parts from the '60-'66 and the '67-'72 trucks and in my tunnel vision of specializing in 4-5-6 Chevy Trucks, this squelched my ability to look outside those years. Thanks for the lesson. I will run by LMC Truck today and check them out. |

Re: Factory shifter boots for 4-5-6 Chevy K10
Here is the route we ended up going on the '66 Chevy K10 lwb fleet build we are doing. I found them at LMC Truck, as suggested, although they did not have the exact boots indicated in the catalog page posted...must have been an outdated copy, because their current catalog for the '67-'72 Chevy trucks, did not resemble this page. In any case, thanks for the suggestion and I think the boots will work out great.

when you restore something that is uncommon, you can only do so much.
I wonder how many people even know what the correct boot should look like? that truck is coming out nice! |

Re: Factory shifter boots for 4-5-6 Chevy K10
Jon:
Thanks for the kind words. I am walking the fine line of truck factory and make due, when necessary. This is one of those examples. I have an unmolested survior '66 Chevy K10 lwb fleet with less than 56,000 original miles, so I use it, along with my reference materials as a guide for correct factory fit-up. Thanks again for the encouragement and I will post additional photos, as they become available. |

They might not be factory for 60-66 but they look pretty darn good. Nice work on that 4x4 Tony.
