got rid of the red panel!!!
Or maybe I should title it project wrong way... project down grade... i dunno.
Some of you will remember the very very very nice tailgate i put on the longhorn... razor straight, awesome original paint, one small hole from a small caliber handgun... otherwise perfect. Well, after the longhorn turned into my beater, and not the project, I began to treat it like an old truck. And that had me scared crapless about this real nice tailgate. I'd be taking scrap to the recyclers, and they'd be afraid to unload my truck... more work for me. I don't like that. Well, it happened. I damaged the nice gate. Made me sick to look at the dent. It's minor... but that's one step further from perfect. Not to mention... in all reality, this old thing isn't worthey of the nice gate. So... for 25% MORE than what I paid for the nice gate.... enter, the brand-used gate. It's even the right color... even if it is the rare 67/68 gate and my truck is a 70... awww hell, my truck is a chevy though! How many of you thought I was talkin about the red door on the burb? !!!!!! |

Re: got rid of the red panel!!!
I definitely expected to see the Burb door get swapped. Nice trick, and good save on the tailgate. No sense beating up a nice one.

I wish I could find a nice gate like that out here. How do you find such nice ones out there?

Re: got rid of the red panel!!!
the nice one was a score on this board. It was probably taken off the day some one bought a truck, and tossed in a barn. I got it out of minisota.
The beater gate... which in all reality is stillpretty nice, came from Cincinatti... another score from a board member. I don't know where it came from before Alvin had it... but it wasn't from around here, I'll tell you that much. |

Re: got rid of the red panel!!!
Jeff... I like ya bud... but not that much! Besides, you'd have the same problem I did.. the value of the gate rivals that of the truck!
Adam... sweet! Good info to know. Mark... I actually screamed OUT LOUD when I scrolled down to that. Paul... the bullet hole was there when I got the gate. Sorry my storry is lame. Brad... LOL, I was thinkin of you when I chose that title! |
