How to adjust shifter to align with indicator
I just recently pulled my steering column and painted it and replace some of the parts . Went to install last night and noticed that my shifter is off. If the indicator says it's in park, it's actually in reverse. If it says reverse, it's in nuteral...you get the point. What's the best way to fix it. I was thinking I could loosen the tranny linkage and reset the shifter to the correct positon on the indicator and then secure the linkage.... or is there a easier way or do I have bigger problems.
Thanks

Re: How to adjust shifter to align with indicator
Do you have a lot of play in the shifter? There is a bushing in the "ear" (for lack of a better term) on the column under the hood where the linkage attaches to the column. If that bushing is shot, it could be your culprit.

I replaced that. I have that problem in park, but the shifter is off one click. if it says indicator says reverse, the truck is in drive. the column is alligned with the dash and everthing on the column is center. I'm hoping someone else has had this problem and found the solution.

Re: How to adjust shifter to align with indicator
Loosen the nut that holds the link rod to the column, put the trans in park by hand, put the shift lever all the way in park, retighten link rod on column.

Re: How to adjust shifter to align with indicator
Take the shift rod that comes off the column and loosen the nut on it. Then slide it up or down till its adjusted into the right gear. i took and shifted my transmission into park first and then moved my column into park then took up the slack with the rod.

Re: How to adjust shifter to align with indicator
The problem you have is that you have one more gear now than the shift indicator shows.I don't think you can adjust the linkage to allow for that so what you need to do is contact the forum venders and get an indicator for a 700r4. Here is one.

Re: How to adjust shifter to align with indicator
Yeah I see that now. RIF after all the posts I've read on the 700r4s and seeing how his post reads I just assumed he had one. Senility setting in.
