Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Okay guys... I've cleaned up the factory bench I picked up from Teeitup, and now I need to mount it in the truck. The PO (x2) installed a late model F### seat in the truck, and drilled two new holes, which is about to be removed. I still have the original floor board in the truck so it still has the correct mounting locations.
While looking in an LMC catalogue, their picture displays using the same bolts to mount the seat to the floor, as well as the brackets to the seat. Is this correct? Does the floor mounts have threads? Or do I need a bolt that will be long enough to accomodate a washer and nut? If anyone has one of their catalogues it's on pg 48 in the second block marked bench seat components. Also, both seat brackets work great, but I'm missing the connect "rod" between the two, it's supposed to allow the seat to move forward and backward. Where do I find one of these, or what can I use to make this feature functional? I know you guys like pictures... but I will have them up in a few days. Thanks in advance! Nate

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
They should be threaded, yes. The rod is just a cable I believe.

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Nate,
The same bolt that is used to mount the seat to the floor is the same bolt that attaches the bracket to the seat frame. I used the battery retainer bracket bolts from Classic Industries. Why? Because they are approx. 1/4" longer than they are the correct size, have a intergal washer, and are black oxide coated. For that matter, I picked up several dozen of those bolts and were able to use them throughout the truck... you got to give us some picks of that seat!! I was telling your father in law that with a little Armour All, that seat would be well worth the big bucks you paid for it! you dog! that was a nice seat, good score, my man!!

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Thanks for the info guys! I will look into the bolts from CPP to see what they run. I still can't fathom the reason why the PO (x2) installed the seat he did, because every thing else on the truck, aside from the exterior mirrors, is correct.
Does anyone have a shot of the cable/rod that extends between the two seat supports to all the seat to move? I can't quite picture what needs to be there. By the way ask and you shall receive... All I was able to accomplish earlier this week was cleaning/painting the seat supports, cleaning the bottom/back of the vinyl. More pics will follow with the finished product as soon as I can get back on it... Before: A shot of the factory build tag:

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
After: (just the back half finished) Look at that SHINE!!! I decided not to paint the bracket mounts on the seat at this time. Mainly because I plan on replacing the vinyl in the future, but until then I'm sticking with the original cover, and I didn't want to accidently paint the cover.

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Nate,
I know there are a couple of threads on the seat adjuster rod. I found this one but it doesn't show much. I have a seat out and I can take a couple of pictures tomorrow. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=seat+adjuster LockDoc

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Thanks LockDoc! The picture showed what the cable looked like, but if you could take a couple of pics of your seat that would be great!

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Every seat I have seen the adjuster cable mech. are screwbared. Poor design etc etc. I just set the seat to fit me wired the darn thing to prevent movement. And yes the mount bolts are 9/16 body type bolts.

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Thanks for the info Sammy!
Does anyone have a resolution for the cable adjuster? I'd like to try as much as possible to have the seat functional.

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Thanks for the pics LockDoc!
Wow... it looks like as the trucks became newer, their ideas for the seat adjustment became older... From a rod to a wire. I'm not sure what I'm going to use to make this functional... anyone know of a replacement rod?

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
Both the seats I have use the cable, however one was attached via the hog ring and another using an 'S' bracket. I prefer the 'S' bracket because it is easier to adjust the tension of the cable. Of course, it is also easier for it to come loose. Then there's the fact that I'm 6'2" and never move the seat in the first place.
Funny, I just did this exact same job last weekend. I would have taken pictures had I thought anybody would be interested in them. I guess I'll take pictures of all my work from here on out. David

I was just given a pickup yesterday with the top cut off. I haven't brought it home yet but it's only a half mile from me. The seat doesn't have any upholstery on it and I don't know what it has for an adjuster but I will check if it quits raining.... I would think they would all interchange between years. LockDoc

Leon, if you would mind checking out the seat in your new treasure, I might be interested in taking that off your hands if you would like. Keep me posted with what you find out.

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
No, but I went over and checked the junker truck out and it looks like all of the adjustment hardware is there for the seat. If you are interested in it I will see if I can get it off in the next couple of days.

Re: Bench Seat Mounting/Adjustment Questions???
LockDoc, is it the bar, or the cable? I'm wondering what it would run to ship the bar since it is so long.
